Hi guys,

I will try my best to stick to all-UCLA, all the time, but there will be instances in which I break from that pact. This is one of them.

I will not write anything about 9/11 because I was 17 and in Southern California and relatively unaffected by the event, compared to those who lost family and friends. That is not to say it did not leave an imprint - quite obviously, it did - but I do not feel qualified to write about that day.

However, my mentor and friend Ed Graney of the Las Vegas Review-Journal wrote an incredibly touching and perfectly crafted story of the impact of 9/11 on one man.

Graney Column

I hope you will forgive this intrusion, and I hope you will not view it as an intrusion. I just had to post this.

To those affected personally...G-d bless.

Thanks
Jon

Jon,

Thanks for sharing that. But you shouldn't apologize for using this forum to share things that touch you. I for one welcome it.

You're doing great with the blog. Keep up the good work.

Jon-

No apologies needed. That single event far surpasses the importance of all sports events combined.

I would like to add my thanks for the great work you're doing on this blog Jon. Are you going to be sticking around and covering the basketball team as well?

Any chance you will be hosting a chat during any of the games (preferably the away games)?

Hey S_P,

I'll definitely start that up once I figure out the blog features a little more. I anticipate starting up the Q&A in a couple weeks, with the chat to follow.

Thanks
JG

John, I've said it before and I'll say it again, you are the best thing to happen to this blog. Thanks for the fantastic coverage and in this case bringing a little humanity and perspective. After all, there is more to life than UCLA athletics (though not much).

Why would anybody complain about your offering something special about a day (1) whose importance is off the charts compared to any sporting event and (2) that profoundly affected every single Bruin, just like it affected every single American?

Great work, Jon.

If people are looking for gameday updates, Jon says on his twitter page that he is having problems doing updates on this blog. Might just have to give updates on his twitter.
