UCLA 19-13

| | Comments (26) |

After a long drive, Tennessee's Daniel Lincoln cut the gap to six points with a 28-yard field goal. Once again, a personal foul penalty hurt the Bruins, as Akeem Ayers had a late hit on QB Jonathan Crompton.
The Bruins now have seven penalties for 65 yards, against 2 for 10 for Tennessee.

Drive Time: 17 plays, 69 yards, 7:43

NEED A QUARTERBACK!!!!!!!!!! Maybe coach puts too much pressure of the quarterback.

Friggin SEC Ref crew tried to give the game to Tennessee, but UCLA prevailed.

Just a couple things, and maybe Jon you can comment:

1. The reffing crew was awful. Very often UCLA d linemen broke in and were held blatantly but to no call. There was also a blatant block in the back earlyon.

2. WOuld of liked to see the ball thrown a little deeper, like to Embree and Austin like last week.

3. Would of liked to see more of Knox, he reminds me of a young MJD, and was making plays.

4. Would of liked to see more of Pressley, he was solid.

Can't complain ,awesome game but I felt we could of actually won big, go UCLA

Jon, are you alive or what?

Rahim Moore is the real deal,he looked like the best safety in the country not Berry.

Can anyone explain the offsides call on the 'real' 4th down to end the game? I just rewatched that about 10 times on DVR and there's nothing close to a movement by the front 4 on the d-line. What gives?

There's a small chance that he's busy interviewing the coaches and players right now. Give it a rest...

What an awesome game, and a pivital win aswell. The only questionable call was the safety one at the end of the game, but it didnt affect the outcome of the game so it all worked out. We're off to a great start!

Go Bruins!!!

i thought prince did a great job of not making mistakes despite nobody giving him time or getting open. Neuheisel has to quit throwing all his players under the bus. He acts as though he's never done anything less than perfect---if you're so great, Rick, then get your players ready to play! He blames them for everything and takes all the credit for himself. Makes me want to barf. That is a fabulous defense and i don't love the offensive production but at least they held onto the game. Kai Forbath gets the game ball. This is a great win and huge momentum. Christmas in San Diego or San Antonio is my prediction.

Prince lost a tooth...he is a tough S.O.B. Maybe next week we'll block somebody and he can show off his arm a bit.

Great win, but again TOO many mental mistakes, which almost cost us the game. I agree with the announcers that Neu and crew should have waited until 4th down to allow the safety and run more time off the clock.

Anybody see Stan Hasiak yawning on the sideline right before he jumped off sides? WAKE UP SON!!!! If you can't stay up for this game, I don't know what you can stay up for. I hope Neu disciplines him accordingly.

Look with impartial eyes. I also saw holding against UCLA not called, many times. Namely by Maiava on a crucial play. I have not been impressed by this kid at all, maybe he needs to be challenged to step it up.

I agree on Knox, he looked GREAT. I think we should have given him the ball more. Afterall, this is HIS town.

try to stay on topic, mom. you and my mother share the same amount of football knowledge. Great win for the Blue Crew.

What game where you watching? Prince had his share of mistakes and exactly who did Neu throw under the bus?

gubon13 Author Profile Page said:

1. I didn't see or hear CRN throw anyone under the bus. Mistakes were made across the board. He identified them as things that needed to be worked on.

2. I saw just as many no calls for UCLA as against. Someone got CREAMED by an illegal block in the back on a UCLA punt return that wasn't called.

3. My only gripe would be spotting the ball, where I thought UTENN got the benefit of the doubt more often than we did, but my only real complaint would be about the safety where it was clearly out. Otherwise, if they got 6 extra inches for a first down, well, we shouldn't have let them get that close...

All in all, a very promising and exciting win, especially over Hello Kiffin. Makes it a lot easier to think we could end up with an 8 win season... That would be an amazing turn-around given where we're at in the rebuilding process.

Now let's get back to practice and clean up those mental mistakes.

The officials were a bunch of homers. I'm surprised that they didn't throw some blocks for the orange.

I do agree though, this kid Prince is tough as nails. He's a winner. Reminds me of McNown and Cowan.

Bruins look good on both sides of the ball despite some minor mistakes and awful officiating. In my opinion, the team is moving in the right direction. CRN and the coaching staff are doing a great job! Just wished the Buckeyes didn't stop playing defense in the 4th quarter. That was their game to win and I think they played a little conservative on offense. Oh well, we celebrate a UCLA win and 2-0...Go BRUINS!!

I love my Bruins! Way to grind out the win Defense! O-line was outmatched today but that's to be expected from such a young line. It will get better as the season progresses. Win or lose, just don't lie down and play tough as you did today.

Go Bruins!
