YGQ, IGA - Part 4

| | Comments (21) |

Let's keep this rolling...

Oh, and thanks for all the questions. PLEASE keep them coming...this is fun.

1) Your thoughts on the biggest recruiting needs other than DL?

The offensive line, first and foremost. Linebacker and safety could use some young talent.

2) Is there a significant chance that Brehaut could start over Craft at Stanford, or has Craft clinched the job given the win against KSU?

They say it's an open competition, but I highly, highly doubt it.

3) Who are the second team linebackers at the present time?

Steve Sloan is set, Patrick Larimore is climbing and Sean Westgate looks good, with Mike Schmitt in the mix.

4) What are the reasons that Craft is playing over Brehaut? Can Brehaut still redshirt or did the action against SDSU take his redshirt away?

Craft is playing because Neuheisel and Chow believes he gives them the most chance to win. That's the sellout answer. I really think Brehaut just isn't ready yet. He can still redshirt I believe.

5) Will USC loss to Washington help UCLA in recruiting?

Can't hurt.

6) What are your thoughts on the scout team for the Bruins? Are there any standouts, and why do they standout for you?

I have been VERY impressed by Joseph Fauria and Jerry Rice Jr. They are quite reliable. Ricky Marvray has flashes of brilliance mixed with bonehead plays.

7) After losing 20 lbs. during training camp. How the heck did Eddie Williams gain it all back since it ended? He look VERY pudgy, as does MAIVA. Optimally what weight does the staff want them both at?

I don't know what the staff wants them at, but it's quite typical for an offensive lineman to put on some weight during the regular season.

8) Anybody on the team strike you as an athlete who would be considered a "FREAK"?
Brian Price is a freak. Xavier Su'a-Filo is a freak. Damien Thigpen is freakish.

9) Who do you see as the most athletic and capable playmaker on the team?
Taylor Embree is a very capable wide receiver. Damien Thigpen can break a return at any time. Alterraun Verner is a future star.

10) Which player has surprised coaches the most since the beginning of camp with on-field production and development?

I think they are most impressed by Johnathan Franklin and Morrell Presley.

Jon, great job!

Brehaut can only redshirt at this point if he suffers a season ending injury in this, the 4th game of the season. Other than that, his reshirt year opportunity has been burned for this year.

Anonymous said:

The guy asks who's the most athletic and you throw in Embree? Wtf. And then you say Verner is a future star? WTF? Verner is a senior and second he's been a stud for us for 3 years and counting.

Also strange how you throw around the term freak pretty loosely...XSF, Price and Derrick Bryant? LMAO

"Alterraun Verner is a future star"

He's a senior, man, and an all american (pre season). THE FUTURE IS NOW!!

Anonymous,

Quit being a disgrace. You can have an opinion without sounding like an illiterate jagbag.

Bingo on all counts, Mike04. Thanks.

In defense of Jon's comment about ATV, I'm sure the "future star" implies his future in the NFL. Verner does seem to be the most likely to play on Sunday along with Price.

The comment about Embree most likely refers to the "capable playmaker" comment--Embree is a capable playmaker. He does show the best hands consistently (Although Rosario's one hander sure puts him in the catagory).

I read that Brehaut can probably petition for a redshirt still as long as he doesn't play again this season.

I would advise 'Anonymous' to remain so. I avoid singling posters out, but you are a consummate douchebag.

Two Questions Mr. Gold:
1. Are we leading for Jordan James?
2. When are Ward and Jones going to finally commit, any ideas?

Thanks a lot for your time!

How competative is the rivalry/competition amoungst the various beat reporters, be it print, radio, or tv? Like does the guy from the LA Times go kick sand in the face of the guy from the OC Register cause he scooped him or do you all share stories/sources?

From one anonymous reader to another:

It's pretty clear all you anonymous readers ragging on Jon worshipped the air that dohn breathed and can't quite accept the fact that Jon is doing a BETTER job than dohn in reporting all things Bruins simply b/c he actually has a GENUINE passion behind his reporting without the pseudo-neutrality that dohn always tried to present, despite all his negativity about how ucla is just a basketball school and that kind of nonsense.

Neuheisel and crew have completed changed the culture of the previous regimes, and we are headed towards black tie affairs within the next few years. It's great to have Jon on board to report with some of the passion bucket that is overflowing from the bruins football program these days.

I also love the fact that we actually get to read these Q and A's on the front page, without having to click again to be directed to the actual Qs and As like we did under dohn's system. I once asked him why we had to click to read the Q and As and he said it was because of technical issues which he couldn't get around. Uhh, Jon doesn't seem to be having any technical issues with posting the actual answers on the front page so we don't have to go through the nonsense of clicking again just to read 5 questions or so like we used to do. Me thinks dohn needed to show his bosses how many 'hits' he was getting to put himself in position to report on his beloved rutgers program, who he felt had a bigger football tradition than us. what a joke!

all in all, great to have Jon on board for the ride! It's gonna be a fun ride these next coming years on the Bruin train! To all anons who still dream about dohn at night (i.e. VB and crew), jump off our train cause the U$C train seems to be having alot more room these days!

Never liked that Dohn guy. He was a hard worker but came across as a "I'm more moral than you" type of guy.

I don't sense any of that nonsense with Gold. And I like his youthful, passionate touch.

The question was "Anybody on the team strike you as an athlete who would be considered a "FREAK"?

Derrick Bryant is not on the team.

bruin4ever said:

look people...the question was "who do you see on the team as the most athletic or CAPABLE PLAYMAKER?". gold then said taylor embree was a CAPABLE wide receiver, thus answering that part of the question...the next question was "what athlete on the team strikes you as a FREAK?" gold responded w/DAMIEN THIGPEN being "freakish" (likely referring to his speed), this answering the 2nd question.he never mentioned derrick bryant...learn how to read and stop making yourselves look like jackasses

Nobody is disagreeing that Jon responded HERE with Damien Thigpen. Anon 2:33 is referring to this post,

http://insidesocal.com/ucla/2009/09/derrick-bryant-commit.html

where Jon uses the term, "freakish," in reference to Derrick Bryant. VBs cat then calls Anon 2:33 a "tool,

"learn to read anon...Jon never mentioned Bryant, you tool."

when Jon clearly mentions, in the above post, that Derrick Bryant is "freakish." I was just calling out VBs cat for calling someone else a "tool" even though that person is correct.

Jon, I think the work you've done so far is excellent. I hate to see anonymous trolls run rampant through your blog. Would you consider requiring people to login in order to comment? I'm sure those who want to make genuine contributions will register. Thanks
