Jon, I know you're up in Stanford (when did that change from Palo Alto, by the way?) but any chance you'll be back in Westwood in time to chat with these 4? A couple 2 for 2's would be great...
We need some more commits. Smith and McCallum or Zeigler would be great, but I dont see it happening, since both McCallum's and Zeigler's fathers are recruiting them.
I guess I would be happy with just Josh Smith committing and anybody else would be a great bonus.
Wow.
Thats a #1 Recruiting Class right there....
Good luck CBH!
If you need me to show up at Campus this weekend to cheer for them as they walk down Bruin Walk, let me know. Also, I have some slutty friends. Oh wait... thats a recruiting violation. Nvmd.
Hey Mike H,
I doubt I'll get them this weekend, but my goal is to make some headway with their coaches tomorrow and try for Monday.
Thanks man
Jon
I'd be disappointed if we don't land all three of them. Certainly Smith and Zeigler have been leaning UCLA for a while. My sense is that McCallum is likely as well.
Jon, assuming no one bolts for the NBA, which is realistic, how many schollies do we have available?
Wow big weekend. Just wanted to congratulate u john on doing such a good job on the blog thus far. thanx go bruins!!
13 Scholarships per season. That leaves 3 more rides to give out for '10.

"Big day..." may be an understatement. Great kids, great school, perfect match. Go Bruins!
Wow, this is huge weekend for UCLA basketball! Smith, McCallum and Ziegler are all prime time players, and at this point I trust Ben's recruiting so much that I already know they're great kids and willing to play D.
It's an interesting situation having no Juniors on the team. With a 13 scholarship limit, if we were to get Smith, Zeigler and McCallum, we wouldn't have any scholarships to give out next year? It doesn't look like any of our guys will really be draft ready by the end of this season, unless maybe Malcolm if he had an absolute breakout year (like Westbrook).
I've been waiting for an update on Smith. Go get 'em Ben.
Anon:
These things always work themselves out. Since Ben Howland has been coach, we have not once had the full 13 players on scholie. Things happen, players develop, there are weak drafts like this year, etc.
I could see Lee, Gordon, and Morgan leaving after their Junior year if they continue to develop. They will get all the chances in the world to showcase their talents with enough playing time on their hands coming. Morgan looks incredible. The NBA always needs talented big men. He could develop dramatically by the end of his Junior year.
Additionally, Moser and Honeycutt are my bets to potentially leave by their Sophomore years.
There is a glut at the 4/5 spot, so some players may not develop or getting enough playing time and transfer.
There will ALWAYS be room on UCLA's roster for talented hardworking recruits. Having too many of them is a problem we have had yet to experience.
