Milton Knox on his situation at UCLA

| | Comments (30) |

Can you comment on the rumors of you potentially transferring?
"I mean, I've been hearing about it. But right now, I'm just focused on the season. I'm not going anywhere. I'm basically waiting for my opportunity to show what I can do."

What do you think is holding you back from seeing the field?
"To tell you the truth, I have no idea. I don't think anything is holding me back for right now. I really can't say. I really don't know. I don't have any ideas. That's what the coaches choose. I'm basically just waiting. There's nothing I can do but wait."

Your hometown is just minutes away from UCLA, what has kept you here?
"Yeah, I was talking to my friend it the other day. He said, "You could have gone anywhere. why'd you come here?" I basically came here because I wanted to stay close to my parents and my grandmother. I basically stayed just because of them. Things happen. Just unfortunately I haven't had the chance to play like I want to. I'm just trying to show that I can play."

How hard would it be to leave?
"To tell you the truth, I really can't say I'm going anywhere. It was kinda funny, just because in the game I was walking in at halftime with one of the weightlifting coaches, I had my head down and I was mad we were losing. One of the fans shouted out "Yo Milton, don't transfer! Don't leave." That's how the rumor started - he said it real loud. Everyone on the team just looked at me, put me on the spot. It's crazy and bizarre. I got at least 20 text messages today. Yeah, it's kind of a hard pill to swallow. Everyone who comes here wants to play, and for me not to play, it is hard to swallow."

From the glimpses I have seen, Milton Knox can really play this game.

I think we can find room for him to run the ball. He is only a redshirt freshman, he has three more years to showcase his talents even after the completion of this season.

I hope he does not make any decision out of his current frustration. I think Neuheisel ought to call him into his office and have a talk with him.

I hope he gets a few carries this weekend. He has some nice shiftiness.

Let's see, you could have played in 5 games thus far (one game he was suspended), but offense doesn't move the ball. And you want more touches. Sorry kid, no one owes you jack, and guess what, some times you have to wait, and there isn't always a good reason

Still don't really know what he has to offer, but good news none the less. was it hard to get that out of him?

Milton Knox is an LA legend from his glory days at Birmingham, this city loves him, it'd be sad if he left

From the way it sounds, this kid will transfer at the end of the year.

Milton should transfer to a better program. I suggest Washington State.

Sid said:

Well...if he transfers, it means he isn't much of a competitor and/or doesn't have the drive to improve his game.

I hope that's not the case, but if it is, better for UCLA. We need competitors on this team.

Just because he's not starting as a freshman? geez wtf? He's only a soph next year lol.

Does Neuheisel promise playing time?

For SD Trojan...

Hey Milton, transfer to USC...don't you know they'll pay for your parents housing just like they did with Reggie Bush? Cheat on!!

Coleman needs to split time with Chane Moline at fullback and Franklin, Thigpen and Knox should be our 3 headed Tailback monster.

Thigpen needs to return Kickoffs because Austin is a good returner but Thigpen has that Matt Slater breakaway game changer speed that Austin lacks.

Knox has 13 carriers for 55 yards 4.2 yds per carry
and has 2 catches for 25 yards 12.5 yds per catch.

Knox needs to see the field...period!!!

Washington State probably has better spotters in the weight room.

A Bruin makies a Stafon Johnson weight room joke.

And no one else says he's out of line.

I think the fact that he doesn't know why he's not playing is a huge red flag for the coaching staff. Hey, at work, I'm not guaranteed to get a bonus, but if I don't get one, I sure as hell want to know what I have to do to get it next time. Everyone should know where they stand and why. If you're too scared to let people know their weaknesses, it shows a lack of leadership. Treat these guys like the adults they are. Nothing worse than creating things/scenarios in your mind to fill the void left by not being told where the issue lies.

I guarantee you any coach looking to steal him away will tell him exactly where he fits in their gameplan....which will likely be a breath of fresh air and make the offer all that more tempting...

you hit the nail right on the head!

Is there a reason Milton was walking in and out of the tunnel by himself or with the weight coach and not the rest of the team??
Also, while team was warming up and on the field, Milton was all alone standing in the endzone like a lost child!!
From the looks of it, he's done!! More playing time for Malcolm Jones next year!!!

Can we all agree that Knox is the better running back than Thigpen. I don't care how fast Thigpen is, a fly touches him and he falls. Make Thigpen a punt returner and keep Austin as a kick off returner. PT problem fixed. Neu is missing the boat with this kid. He's a gamer. Sure hope he doesn't leave the program unless you trolls who care less like losing.

That's called getting to the source! Punks!

Knox looked pretty good with those short passes and screens. He made some pretty good moves out in the open field. I agree that Coleman and Moline should split time at fullback, knowing that Molines gone next yr, Coleman could easily make the switch.

Anonymous said:

Let's hope he stays and let's hope he plays. Honestly he has that it factor, he just needs to get the reps in games.

There's no way Christian Ramirez should've leap frogged him and got that huge 3rd down carry at mid field in which he couldn't gain 2 yards. Knox is way faster and could've gotten around the corner for an easy first down.

After these last 2 weeks it is evident that you need a RB that is fast enough to get around the corner and get out into open space...Franklin, Thigpen and Knox are those guys. Coleman, Ramirez and Moline need to all line up in the FB slot.

What Milton should be saying is the focus should be on Beating AZ! These backs need so much attention!

Goldie went straight to the source and got a comment from Knox. Great work.

Dohn would have arrogantly admonished every reader with a "I don't deal in rumors, I deal in facts" cow manure. Glad he is at rutgers with all the east coast snobs.

It is time for Neuheisel to play the fine talent he supposedly recruited and Milton Knox is one of these fine recruits.

anon said:

Perhaps Knox should be asking either Presley or Carroll on how they to get on the field after their suspensions. Didn't Neuheisel mention about Knox needs to pay detail attention?

The problem is the offensive coaching staff in place did not recruit Milton they simply retained him. They do not know what they have. Hopefully they will figure it out before he puts up big numbers somewhere else. Play your best 11 period. There seems to be a strong favoritism with the 2009 class.
