My report card for UCLA/Zona, what's yours?

| | Comments (13) |

After watching the game on TV, which afforded me the ability to go back and watch certain plays, here's what I think of the performance. How bout you?

RESULT: Arizona 27, UCLA 13
RECORD: 3-4
WEEK 7 GPA: D

QUARTERBACK
Combined 15-of-35, 146-yard effort is unacceptable.
F+

RUNNING BACKS
Either not getting the chance to succeed or simply not capitalizing.
C-

WIDE RECEIVERS
An astounding seven TOTAL catches by UCLA wideouts. Pitiful.
F

OFFENSIVE LINE
Holding penalties, false starts, four sacks. What is this, 2008?
F

DEFENSIVE LINE
Contain. Contain. Contain. Contain.
D

LINEBACKERS
Not a bad effort, but those end-arounds fall on their shoulders, too.
C

DEFENSIVE BACKS
Burned a couple times, but turnovers make up for it. One bright spot.
B+

SPECIAL TEAMS
Forget bronzing Kai Forbath's shoe. Bronze his leg.
A

COACHING
Questionable personnel moves underscore increasing player frustration.

I'd give the special teams a B. Not sure what to think of Terrence Austin returning kickoffs. He has a pretty good return average, but can't seem to get past that second set of defenders because he isn't ver fast. He is incredible at finding the right hole and reading the defense though. I doubt he'll ever take one to the house on a kickoff. He needs to remain our punt returner though because of how difficult it is to catch and return punts and how well he catches and gets a few yards.

Simply put, it is one thing to wait for the youth to get 'seasoned.' It is yet another thing to watch bonehead mistakes that should not be made by any player, regardless of skill level or youth.

I have said before, and I repeat AGAIN now, Brehaut is the most athletic of the bunch and seems to have the best arm or the three. This season is done! Put a fork in it. Yes, I know, we can still make a bowl, blah, blah, blah. But the fact of the matter is reality tells us this season is about to vaporize.

Play Brehaut now. All game, every game. Get him the reps now -- don't wait until clean-up time in the 3rd Q. Don't wait until Spring Ball. DON'T WAIT AT ALL !!!

As for the Twitter Twit. Call Slippery Pete and tell him we have a 'Trojan' calibur player that wants to transfer. It kills me that these 19 year old prima donnas think the woes of UCLA football will end once they get the PT they deserve.

As an "investor" in Bruins football (not just season tix, but donations, travel and associated expenses), I demand a better product on the field.

I'm tired of wait until "this" or "that" happens. All the while, SUC reloads and is always in the NC picture.

Rick, play the talented youth and forget about the 'experienced' dregs of the earth. The future is now. Play the talented youth, but kick the crybabies (twits) to the curb. This is your program and ultimately, your legacy. Time to play rough.

And, just in case you were wondering. Despite my apparent frustration, the UBTA will be there at the UW game, o'dark thirty as usual, #1 Rose Bowl Drive, and we will root on this Bruin team. There is no quit in us either, Rick!

Desperate times call for desperate measures!! The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over again expecting diffrent results!!

Rick and Norm are you listening? The O needs to open up and the youngsters need to be playing significant minutes. Knox needs to be getting the ball in space. Receivers that can't catch should not be playing.

F for everyone except Rahim Moore, Akeem Ayers, Tony Dye, Jeff Locke. Jerzy Siewierski, and the 2 Boz bros.

we need big time playmakers who are ready to step it up when the lights come on.

F- all the way around!

pretty frustrating to watch some of the players joking and laughing away during the final few minutes saturday night. I would think they would be upset at another butt kicking?

Looks like all we have in the athletic dept is Ayers & Moore. Everyone else plays like they're planted in cement.

A. Verner has just played himself into maybe a fifth round selection now - good luck kid.

Last Place / 3-9 / no bowl / I guess there's always water polo? I hear were pretty good in that sport?

I thought Brian Price still played really well. As usual he was getting double and even triple teamed a couple of times and still was the closest lineman getting any pressure.

The DB's played pretty well on pass D but were totally man handled by the WR's on run plays. In the Cal and Arizona game Sheldon Price and even ATV made the WR's look like the best blocking receivers in the country. They should bring Ricky Manning Jr. back to provide some coaching on the matter.

F -. The only players that weren't an embarassment were Ayers & Price (for a handful of plays each), Moore, Jerzy, Paulsen, Locke, & Forbath. Blaming Rick or Norm is ridiculous, the offense has no personnel capable of mounting a consistent threat. Starting with the OL, we need talent at every position on offense. The really disappointing part of the team is the D. All of our returning talent on that side of the ball & we still can't pressure the QB, contain, or stop any type of screen or misdirection play. If you want your pound of flesh it should come in the person of Chuck Bullough - image that D without Price, Jerzy, Carter, ATV, & The Boz Bros. next year. I say give it 2 more years before calling for Rick or Norm's heads.

Is Derrick Coleman hurt? If not, why isn't he playing? He averages 5 yards a carry. If you want ball control and take pressure off the QB, give him the ball.
