Loyola TE John Young reportedly commits to UCLA
Loyola Cubs tight end John Young - a teammate of coveted running back Anthony Barr - has reportedly committed to UCLA.
Young told Scout.com's Allen Wallace that he has been committed to the Bruins for about two weeks, but wanted to keep it under wraps.
In Young, UCLA gets a 6-foot-4, 250-pound brick wall with fantastic grades and a solid work ethic.
With Logan Paulsen and Ryan Moya graduating and Cory Harkey, Nate Chandler and Joseph Fauria all expected to battle for top billing next season, I wouldn't be surprised if Young redshirts.
Here is Young's recruiting profile: Young

Welcome to the bruin family John. Now bring Mr. Barr along for the ride too!! GO BRUINS, BEAT THE SUN DEVILS!!!
very nice. Barr should be next...!
Cool, hopefully we still get christian thomas.
doubt he remains a TE in college. Most likely O line or DT
barr must sense the turmoil brewing in southbend. just make the announcement now barr!!! you can help us recruit other studs!
From what I've read about C. Thomas's SAT scores, that might be prohibitive to him being a Bruin. Plus TE isn't a position of need for the immediate future for us. We need OL'a and LB's.
What about Presley?
Jon,
We seem to have a lot of WR's. Is there any chance that Presley moves back to the TE spot?
I'm starting to wonder the same about Presley. Maybe he was an all-world athlete at TE for a reason. He certainly hasn't done too much as a slot WR (though, he is a true freshman). I really want to see this kid succeed, but I'd love to see him used like M Lewis.
About Barr, I can't see him coming if he wants to play RB at the next level. If he's open to playing on the D side, like at DE or something, then we should have a shot.
Gotta love those "silent commitments!" Thank you, and "Welcome!" to the BRUIN family, Mr. Young. Now, if you can offer a little assistance with teammate A-Barr, it would be much appreciated! By the way, who's next? Hayes Pullard? Josh Shirley? Sil? Wade? George? Kirifi? O-zuwa? Olaniyan? Shaq? C-Christian? Where ya at?!
it's going to be tough for Neuheisel next year, because he's going to have have one eye on John Young, one eye on Fauria, one eye on Harkey, one eye on.... okay, okay, just kidding. Jon, really appreciate staying on top of everything, as t this may be one of the tougher times of year on the beat, what with football season and basketball season at the same time, on top of all the recruiting.
USC would start him instantly with Anthony McCoy leaving and Blake Ayles a disappointment.
Matt Barkley seems to rely more on his tight ends more than anyone besides Damien Williams, who is leaving to be a first round draft pick.
Jon,
What happened with Josh Smith's LOI?
Jon,
Presley doesn't seem to see much action as a WR. it seems he would be behind Embree and Rosario and Ketchum still..possibly behind Carroll too. I see them all in the game before him now...so are they planning on using him more next year as TE? How many more years of eligibility does Fauria have left?
For such a gifted athlete, I am not sure he is being used correctly right now. he seemed play more at the start of the season...has his stock gone down due to his play? Or have the other guys separated themselves in practice that much more?
there is always room for big beefy tight ends! UCLA uses multiple TE sets and blocking is as much a part of being a TE as receiving so, welcome Mr Young!
Next season, Harkey and Chandler will both be Jr., Presley and Fauria will be So., and Miller will be a Sr., so there is a lot of depth at TE. I suspect that Young will redshirt and that if he grows as much in the next year as he did in the last, he will move to OT. They tried to move Chandler to OT twice and moved him back to TE. Young is bigger than Chandler and will probably move to another position. Young is a very good athlete. They have 2 top recruits at TE across town, so perhaps C. Thomas goes out of state.
Right, so being the Presley according to most, isnt going to stay at TE. We will have 2 Juniors and 1 Sophomore at TE. That doesnt sound like depth to me. Are there any Frosh TE's on the scout team this year that might compete behind Fauria?
As far as I know Presley was the only TE we got in last years class. If young goes to O-Line, there will be no tight ends in that class. Doesnt that leave a big hole at TE? It will have to be a big need for 2010 recruiting then i would imagine.
That's great news followed by the equally great news that Olaniyan just committed to UCLA. Shaping up to be a great start of the week!
Great start to the week!!
The "Stars" are beginning to align! Stud OLB Arimide Olaniyan is also now a BRUIN!!! Holla! Anybody with me on the remaining "Dream Class" from my previous post?! CRN and Staff are showing out, baby! GO BRUINS!
Man, you just gotta love a guy who wants to work on dominating the line.
Congratulations, John Young! You've made a great decision.
