On the podcast
Hey guys,
First of all, to those who listen: Thanks. Ben and I are very excited about starting this up, and I hope we delivered with the first one.
There are a few kinks. More than a few. But during the next few weeks, we'll get them ironed out and move forward. I'm just as new to this as Ben is, and the Daily News has only done podcasts for a short time, so we're going to only get better with time.
I only ask for patience, and when we start streaming live and have call-ins, some lively debates.
Thanks again for listening,
Jon

Love the effort, Jon.

If you think it is bad for L.A. fans, how about Trojan fans back East, where the game starts at 10:00 p.m.
I was beginning to get soft about SUCLA, feeling sorry for them, but the SUCLA clan that comes on to this blog has only cemented the idea that SUCLA people have no class and deserve no sympathy.
And SC has a few surprises for these losers Saturday night. I

At halftime, fourth-year UCLA student Carrissa Hsieh won the Sport Chalet SuperShot. She made a free throw, layup, three -pointer and halfcourt shot within 30 seconds to win books and tuition for an academic year.
This has been fantastic Jon. Thank you for all the hard work. You and Ben sounded good and gave great insight and dialogue. Thanks again and happy thanksgiving.
I enjoyed the podcast and look forward to the next one.
Great gig, John and "Big Ben". It is now on my Yahoo home page and my ITunes. Be sure Ben knows he gets a lot of UCLA love. Thanks, great podcast. 74
Mr. Gold, how about posting a link or picture of the DEFACED tommie trojan from last year? That should lighten up things around here!

As your intro music, why not play our current (since 1984) fight song, "Mighty Bruins"? The song you played, "Sons of Westwood," wasn't used as the fight song during my time at UCLA, mid-1960s. At that time, we sang and played "By the Old Pacific Waters."
The cool thing about "Mighty Bruins" is that it ties generations together because it's the best fight song we've ever had, and it's easy to learn and to sing.
You can find the lyrics, music, and history here:

Here's the history:
The Mighty Bruins
To commemorate its 50th anniversary, the UCLA Alumni Association commissioned a new fight song. After a contest soliciting lyrics from students and alumni, Academy Award-winning composer Bill Conti chose the winning lyrics (from Barbara Lamb ’66 and Don Holley ’84) and wrote the music to “Mighty Bruins.” The song made its gridiron debut in fall 1984 at the Stanford football game, with Conti conducting the UCLA Marching Band.
Anyway, that's my suggestion. Thanks for listening.
