Don't you mean Oso Loco instead of Oso Loc?

How about "The Sandlot"?

Homage to our beaches and the spirit of getting out on the field and drawing plays in the dirt...

Jon, I like your writing style but can you please spell check your articles better? I can't remember the last time I read a post that didn't have some grammatical or spelling error.

Is this really a big deal to UCLA fans?

I don't care if you call it the pussy cat or the kitty cat or the oh so retarded discussion-o, etc. I only care if it works.

Matt A Author Profile Page said:

If we are not calling it "Wildcat" because of U of A, then calling it "Bear" makes no sense with Cal. Yes, Oso is "bear" in Spanish, but we are in Los Angeles. I guess it could be Osito Loco, but that does not have the kick that Oso Loco has.

Bruin86 said:

Oso Loco hands down. Original and has a ring to it.

Should we pander to any other special interest groups, or are we just limiting it to Mexicans in this case?

Osito Locito

I guess if we're going to do this thing in Spanish, it really should be "El Oso Loco."

But, when I first saw this whole idea of naming the formation, I thought it was the dumbest thing ever. It hasn't gotten any better. None of these are "naturals." They all seem forced. It's better to have something like this build with a groundswell of support, rather than forcing it.

Dr. Bruin said:

No offense, but all of these sames except are terrible-- they're laugable and demeaning, not at all intimidating.

Why in the world does Undie Run make ANY sense in this context? And Bear Claw? I like it... as a DONUT. The WildWestwood has no relation to anything-- the formation isn't chaotic.

Oso Loco isn't really that good either. Why does the bear have to be crazy? Shouldn't it be wild?

Not trying to be a hater, but if you're going to use this name in print, perhaps it would be better to wait for something that is good, rather than to take what's available.

I sure hope you did not go to UCLA, because you are embarrassing.

How about. . .

BBBJ

The "Bare Bruin Backfield Jugernaut" as in the lone Bruin in the backfield will vreate a juggernaut for the opposing teams. Yeah, BBBJ, I like that.

I would cringe if i ever heard any of these names mentioned by sportscasters or in print media

Anonymous said:

Why does the formation even need a name? Its just UCLA running the wildcat.

This will never pick up steam. Stupid to even discuss.

Anonymous November 17, 2009 2:35 PM - Mexicans aren't the only people who speak Spanish. Idiot.

I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiments of several posters. I vote for "NONE OF THE ABOVE."

We are not the "Bears," so that should eliminate two of the choices. The "Undie Run" is just plain stupid in this context (not necessarily stupid in other contexts!).

Finally, "The Wildwestwood Formation" *could* be shortened to "TWF," but then, I think it would be better rearranged to "WTF.

NONE OF THE ABOVE.

Jon,
This is not a really good idea,it's rather lame.Sometimes you need to admit failure and move on;this is one of those times.

How about the "Finally a carry for Knox" formation.

Anonymous said:

this is stupid.

it has to be Wild something.

Wild Bruin is the only thing that works. period.

Bear Claw?

How about:

Cougar Claw
Beaver Claw
Devil Claw
Wildcat Claw
Cardinal Claw
Huskies Claw
Duck... Claw?

Makes about as much sense.

Reading the posts I can't help but feel there are more than a handful of dinosaurs roaming the blog and trying to use their baby boomer strength (numbers) to maintain a bland and "safe" feel to the UCLA program. WTF, you guys had your moment in the sun. Why can't you all be silly, flexible and fun?!?! By the sounds of it some of you must have been up in arms when the "shotgun" formation and the "wishbone" formation were named. Its football, a sport, and it’s suppose to be enjoyable not dull and mundane.

Second, don't know if some of you know this but Spanish isn't only spoken in Mexico. I know this may come as a shock to some of you but Spanish is considered the second (or third depending which article you’re reading) most spoken language in the world, behind Mandarin and ahead of English.

Finally, Oso loco is by far the coolest/best choice in the lot. Glad it’s winning out.

MMA Bruin said:

How about the Slick Rick formation or Pop, Bang, Chow!

LZ said:

Regardless of what everyone's opinion is on Oso Loco, Anon (Nov. 17th, at 2:35) needs to enroll at UCLA Extension, a CC, or at the very least invest some of their time reading on the internet. The Spanish language is not spoken by only Mexicans. It is the official language in 21 countries. I'm embarrassed to be on the same blog with someone so ignorant.

You're an idiot. Of course formations are called by their generally names. But if you were to read ANY playbook in the NFL or in a NCAA Football team you would see coaches label the formations according to their whims. That was the whole point of labeling our formation.

It is pretty obvious you never played organized football in your life. And about being old, maybe you just act old. No accounting for age I guess.

Please refrain from writing when you don't know your X's from you O's.

Tru Tru Tru,

Bruin is a synonym for bear used poetically or in literature. Why is that we have a huge sculpture of a bear in our quad! Oso Loco makes perfect sense. So Bruin and Bear are the same thing. Actually it is specifically used for to describe a Brown Bear, Joe Bruin is Brown. Bruin is a dutch word that translates as Brown. So if we want to be technical we're actually the Ucla Browns. But i guess, El Oso Loco Cafe would be the precise wording. Lets just stick with Oso Loco cause it Rocks!!!

We should only run it with Chane Moline and then we can just call it the Wild Train.
