Post-practice update

* Felt like the first practice of a new season, and in some ways it was.

* Rick Neuheisel and several players said the first few days of preparation for Temple would be mostly about analyzing some of the younger players.

* Position battles remaining are at right guard, where Ryan Taylor returned but appeared hobbled by his foot injury; cornerback, where Sheldon Price and Aaron Hester continue their maneuvering; and running back, between Chane Moline, Derrick Coleman and Johnathan Franklin.

* Kevin Prince did not throw and said after practice that he was still in pain. Neuheisel said two days ago that Prince was hopefully returning on Wednesday. I doubt it.

* St. Francis’ Deitrich Riley, Serra’s Paul Richardson, Cathedral’s Anthony Jefferson and Los Alamitos’ Shaquille Richardson, Paul Richardson’s cousin and a recent UCLA commit, were at practice today.

From Neuheisel:
“Great first day. Kids are excited to be here, excited to have the opportunity to play again and that’s exactly what we’d hoped for. We’re looking forward to playing a really good game there in Washington, D.C.”
