Dean, Bennett, Miller, Rubio leave UCLA football program
UCLA offensive linemen Jake Dean and Brandon Bennett, tight end Jeff Miller and safety Garrett Rubio have decided to end their football careers with the Bruins.
All four are redshirt juniors who will graduate this spring.
Dean received the most playing time out of the group, starting seven games last season and the last two this year, against Arizona State and USC.
The four players were honored at the team's annual award banquet on Monday night, along with the 18 other departing seniors.

Thanks for all the hard work guys. Dean retiring is a little surprising, he could have helped out on the two deep. And there is nothing wrong with Neuheisel letting players know they have no real expectation of playing next year - those guys are all graduating from UCLA - not too shabby
Assuming we go to a bowl, will they be there? Mostly this relates to Dean because he contibuted on a more consistent basis.
Rubio isn't on scholarship so not really a lost but great to hear he's graduating.

These guys did it right. Very, very few people are able to make a living playing football, and these guys parlayed their skills into a free education at a top-flight institution. Good luck to them.

I was 6'0 217 and not only did I bull rush you for 2 sacks but I used my speed rush around the edge for 3 more.. Oh yeah and in baseball I hit a 3 run homerun off of you.. Good thing I didn't play ball at UCLA.. Cuz I would dominated you there too. Haha!!

They are graduating from a major university to get on with a life with no fanatsy of playing pro ball.
Congratulations to them all! They paid their dues to haev their education paid for. They're in a much better place financially than 99% of their fellow graduates
What's this about Coach Neuheisel clearing anyone away? They're all redshirt juniors, which means they are seniors (fourth-year students) this year and on track for graduating. Why stick around for a fifth year just to play football if you're not starting, you already have your degree, and you're ready to get on with your life?
Congratutions to these young men! Though it is true that they were not prominent players, we should not downplay their collective decision to move on. And, with all the recent hoopla over recruiting, I'm sure at one time or another we were all happy that they signed on to become BRUINS. Let's remember that a degree from UCLA should have been the main reason to attend our institution in the first place. From myself, I applaud your efforts...
