Not that I support this type of tradition, but no one made a big deal out of it during the Donahue years and those teams won bowl games most of the time. (Of course, media outlets were not as abundant as they are now.)
I would like to see it as more of a Senior tradition done only in the early weeks of bowl practice. The first few bowl practices are more for the underclassmen anyway. This can be added senior reward for making a bowl and to kind of 'stick it' back to the coaches (in a nice way) for the 4 - 6 years of taking all the yelling and long hard practices. If the team does not go to a bowl, then the seniors just have to make the most out of their introductions on Senior Day of the last home game.
We actually had good teams during the Donohue years and didn't luck into a bowl game. We are 6-6 for heaven's sake and I'm sure most football programs around the country not going to a bowl would love extra practice. Of all the traditions to have, why this one? I just hope CRN makes them pay tomorrow.
