I looked at the entire list - first and second teams. I don't why I should be surprised, but there was something very interesting about both teams. Considering how "great" they are, NOT ONE showed up on either team.

I remember as a kid (growing up in the 1960's) asking my mom (who didn't go to college, but instead was a full time mom) what the difference was between UCLA and USC. She said, to get into UCLA you have to get really good grades and have some smarts. At USC, you have to have money.

How true...

rejn's mom is smart!

That was my understanding as well when I was young. My parents didn't go to college.
A high school guidance counselor pointed me to sciences and math and college. She left school before I graduated and never had chance to say thanks to her.

Uuuh, sorry to burst some folks' out-of-touch bubble, but the latest official reports of academic excellence of U.S. colleges lists ucla at 24 and SC at 26. Cal and Stanford are of course ahead of both schools in the west, and Harvard and the other "Ivies" are the top schools. And guess what, with the economic crisis and the cutbacks of the tax-dependent schools i.e. ucla, the privates i.e. SC will soon overtake them.

While a college education is nice to have, of course,
college lasts 3 year 9 months, or about 5% of a person's life. What you learn during the other 95% of your life will determine your "legacy."

P.S. Off subject, but do you realize this is the 3rd time in 4 years that the ucla football team has lost it, and marched across the field ready to have a gang-type fight with SC?

Shameful!

What? How does a student get a 4.07 in college? They have some kind of AP classes over there at Arizona State? Or maybe extra credit for showing up? What kind of hokey list is this?

And the character of Pete Carroll is something to proud of?

Hmmm. Let's see. 1. The recruitment of Brian Price and the way Carroll called out his character? 2. How Pete Carroll was crying and acting like a little baby when Sanchez decided to leave the nest? 3. A couple weeks ago when Harbaugh whipped his butt, Carroll couldn't handle it and tried to show him up after the game, and failed at it? 4. Oh yeah, and the giddy-ness of Carroll after the last touchdown against UCLA?

Boy, that's the kind of coach I WOULD NEVER send my kids to play for. When it comes to character, and showing it, Pete Carroll is a big time loser. Talk about shameful??? On the other hand, I guess birds of a feather flock together...

ps: the reference to academics was made in regards to the football team. That's shameful as well...

Why do you choose the one ranking that has SUC even close--and the one that has the least respect in the academic world? In fact, there is not a single ranking that has SC higher. The most respected ranking, put out by The Economist, has UCLA as the 12th best University in the world while SUC comes is in the high 50's. Also, please explain to me why I know of so many kids who can't get into UCLA but end up at SC and why so many more UCLA students are accepted at the most prestigious law, business and medical schools.

Lawyer john,

Can we take World News as the "official reports of academic excellence of U.S. colleges" seriously? It's just a poll man!

Even if you look at US News rankings,

UCLA is tied for 2nd in Public University Rankings.

SUC is 24th in Private University Rankings.

Congrats trOJans!
