Five minutes with Jordan Zumwalt

Spoke briefly with Huntington Beach Edison linebacker Jordan Zumwalt, the No. 20 OLB, and he’s cautiously interested in UCLA.

He’s still a soft verbal commit to Stanford, but it’s down to those two schools, and after Zumwalt’s visit this weekend to Stanford, he’ll decide.

How was the visit?
“It was awesome. The campus is very nice, everybody there was awesome. I get that feeling there. They want me to come in and compete. They’re not guaranteeing me anything, they just want me to compete, which I respect a lot?

How are you handling the USC coaching news?
“I don’t know man, it’s kind of a bummer. I built a relationship with those coaches, I got to know what their program was about, now they’re gone I don’t know what to expect. I’ll wait it out and see what happens. It’s so weird man. At least it wasn’t after signing day, cuz then a lot of people would get screwed. Now people can get out.”

What do you like about UCLA?
“They’re going to be on the rise. I saw it when I was there. I’d like to go to somewhere and be part of something special. Stanford, too, I know they’re on the rise. I made the decision to make it down to these couple schools, and if there were a lot of schools I’d be even more lost.”

What more can UCLA do to win your services?
“I don’t know – all I can say is I liked it a lot. I’ll take my trip to Stanford and I’ll see where I like best.”
