Honeycutt to start against Stanford

| | Comments (8) |

Ben Howland said after the game that he would stick with Tyler Honeycutt in the starting lineup and Jerime Anderson off the bench.
Honeycutt played well, with 10 rebounds in 29 minutes, including four offensive boards, but Anderson also showed a spark off the bench that intrigued Howland, as he added 11 points and four rebounds.

SWEET!!! So far... the zone has worked in Pac-10 play. The two games we played it (AZ St. & Cal), we won. The one game we didn't (AZ), we lost. Not sure if this is because it's a better defense for us OR if because Pac-10 teams don't expect us to play zone at all and do not prepare properly to attack it against us - thoughts???

Not to be too harsh on Anderson, I thought the pass he tried to throw under the basket at the end of OT, the pass that was fortunately deflected to Roll, was a silly chest pass; anyone with his kind of experience should be using a bounce pass in that situation...a bounce pass would have had a much greater chance of reaching its intended target (Nelson?) who probably would have had a layup to win the game.

Honeycutt really got after the boards and that made a huge difference. I still wonder why he never takes a jumper? He doens't even look at the basket most of the time he has the ball.
Jerime's pass off the arm of the Cal player was just pure luck sent our way for once this season. We'll take it.
The first half we shot like we did against AZ the 2nd half we shot like we did against AZst.
Who is going to make 3's next season when Roll and Drago leave? No one on this team except Roll and Drago seem to be able to hit a jumper with any kind of consistency.

Drago is consistent?

And I'll trade better defenders for Drago and Roll any day. Who cares if you can put up 15 points a game when you give up 20 points a game in layups?

AI still get nervous every time Anderson gets the ball. Physical limitations, i can understand....mental errors, i cannot and there should not be any excuses.

Many of his mistakes are not due to physical limitations, but are mental - fundamental things that all point guards need to do:

- dont pick up your dribble at the top of the key
- strong bounce passes
- dont jump to pass the ball
- slide your feet in defense, dont cross your feet

basic, basic, basic........

Lee and JA both picking up their dribble at the top of the key is killing me! It feels like they are going to get their pockets picked by every defender...so they pick up.
Droog, I hear what you are saying...BUT I have not seen any of the guys on the bench doing any better on defense.
At this point, the 3's from Drago and Roll kept us in that game. Not consistent, but timely if nothing else.
I hope a lot of these young guys work hard on their perimeter game because we need someone who can shoot!

I have rooted for Anderson for a long time, but can no longer place any faith in his effort. One's physical limitations are understandable, but if you're not doing everything you can to help your team, it's inexcusable.

The reason Anderson has so many mental lapses and is constantly recovering from injuries is his love for "extra curricular activities" (i.e. he loves the weed too much) It'll be good for him to have competition. I hope Malcolm retains his starting PG spot (but please let's find some nutritional help for his cramps) and Lazeric Jones learns the playbook QUICK. This program cannot handle Anderson being a three year starter.

What is your source of this "information?" That's a pretty significant accusation to be making without sourcing or substantiating it.
