Norm Chow's agent Don Yee has reportedly just told ESPN that Norm Chow is staying at UCLA.

I'll follow up as I can.

then why is Wolf saying Norm is talking to USC right now?

and why did LAT say this:

UCLA football: Norm Chow situation remains unchanged ... at 10 a.m.
January 14, 2010 | 10:09 am
A report on Dan Patrick’s website said that Norm Chow would remain at UCLA, according to a radio interview with Bruins’ Coach Rick Neuheisel this morning.

Neuheisel moments ago said that he only reiterated what he said Wednesday, which was that “Norm told me he is committed to UCLA.”

Neither Chow nor his representative has said he is staying at UCLA. USC officials have made contact with Chow in an attempt to lure him back, but no negotiations had taken place as of last night.

“I told [Dan Patrick] the same thing I said yesterday, that Norm has a job at UCLA,” Neuheisel said.

Asked whether that could change, Neuheisel said, “that can always change.” But, he said, “Norm said he is happy to be here.”

So many layers in those Shakespearean dramas. But will this be Much Ado About Nothing?

Jon, what happened to your post about Chow's family members saying that something happened between Kiff and Chow in 2005 that cannot be reconciled?

Patrick Hall, I was just looking for the same post.

We need to extend his contract and pay him as much as we can. I know the last two years have been bad offensively (actually hasn't it been bad for the last DECADE)but I do think he will turn things around. It took him 2years with an experienced QB in Carson "Rosey" Palmer to turn things around, let's give him a few more with a freshman QB.

usc is stupid and dont know what there saying. there just trying to stir things up. everyone knows norm and lane dont get along and that lane wants to call the plays

@Patrick Hall, yeah, that was strange, I saw that, too. I wonder if it was something that was supposed to be off the record.

Offensive coordinator Norm Chow will remain with UCLA next season and will not join Lane Kiffin at USC, his agent tells ESPN.

Chow, who worked with Kiffin under Pete Carroll at USC, was mentioned as a possible offensive coordinator for the Trojans when Kiffin succeeded Carroll.

But Chow's agent, Don Yee, tells ESPN that talks went no further than one brief contact with USC about the position.

Chow will remain at UCLA

UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel said he spoke with Chow on Wednesday afternoon, adding his offensive coordinator "assured me he wants to be at UCLA."

Chow is in the final year of his contract and set to take a hefty pay cut (from $1 million to $640,000) because the money he was being paid by the NFL's Tennessee Titans is up after this season. Although Neuheisel wouldn't comment on the prospect of an extension for Chow, he addressed it indirectly.

"Obviously there can be movement in that regard. That's for the people who sign the checks and make those decisions," he said. "With respect for me, I want to know that my assistant coaches want to be here."

Pretty important comment from Scout.com

"Other sources are indicating that the UCLA administration has worked to enhance Chow's salary package with the school."

As a UCLA fan, this is great news but if one is a sane & reasonable SC fan (the few that exist), how could you not want the SC AD's head on a platter?

Mike Garrett (and well-heeled SC alums working behind the scenes) looks like an idiot for putting out into the media that they had signed Chow…then were pursuing Chow…even though by all indications, he hadn’t run this by Kiffin who would assuredly want to call the plays or have input into it.

This on top of throwing the hoops program under the bus in the hopes of gaining leniency with the NCAA Infractions committee next month?

Appeal on SC!

Hypothetical situation.

A coach signs a 100 year contract with UCLA signed in blood. A year from now he gets offered a job he believes is better for him.

Who here thinks the coach stays?

Classy non-move by Norm! We know 'SC could throw more money at him, and maybe they did, maybe they didn't, but I appreciate that he will be back with us next year (and hopefully well beyond). Bring it in 2010, Norm!

I guess that settles that. Now, hopefully we can put behind us all that wasted nonsensical chatter. Don't you love it when you see a fire put out?

GO BRUINS!

Love you Coach Neuheisel. Glad you're still a Bruin, Coach Chow.

CRN is treating NC well, so NC stays. Lane Kiffin did not treat NC well in the past, so NC is not going to U$C. Simple as that. Think of all the discontent that Lane Kiffin has already created in a relatively short career (with NC, Raiders, SEC, Urban Meyer, UT) Who will be added to the list in the future???? This will be fun!

Wow... its been like Lord of the Flies in here the last few days. We went from "Good Riddance, Norm" to "Thanks for staying, Coach Chow". It would be nice to conduct OUR business with some poise (or at least sanity) instead of being infected by the hysteria across town. Let's leave all the worry and panic hiring to the other guys. I would have liked to have seen us (or any other school) pillage their recruiting class while Heritage Hall is in disarray.

I meant to post this question before the Kiffin hiring but I guess I got my answer:

With possible NCAA sanctions looming, did you think that $UC would hire an upstanding guy (to clean up the program, a la Dorrell after Toledo) or do they hire some other guy and just try to cheat better next time? ...like I said, question answered.

Jon,

Any word on an extension of 2-3 years?

Can you ask about this?

Thanks,

ET

Chow finally breaks the silence! Hell yea, we have all the momentum in recruiting and in the program, and SC's hire looks pathetic

UCLA press release makes it official, and quotes Chow.

Game, set, match, fat lady:

Norm Chow, perhaps the top offensive coordinator in college football, will continue in that role at UCLA, it was announced today.

"I appreciate the interest from USC and Lane Kiffin, but I feel we are building something special here at UCLA and I am excited about our future," said Chow, who has coached three Heisman Trophy winners during his illustrious career. "We have some outstanding young players in the program and we are working hard on finishing strong in recruiting."

"We are thrilled that Norm is going to continue as our offensive coordinator," said head coach Rick Neuheisel. "As Norm said, we are building something special at UCLA and he is certainly a very important part of the package. We have unfinished business here at UCLA and our coaches and players are very excited about our future. I'm glad Norm wants to finish what he's started. UCLA is a special place to call home."

There was a lot of shameless manipulation going on to try to scare UCLA fans and players into thinking NC was leaving, but ultimately the air cleared.

Anyone with an ounce of critical thinking and research skills could see past the facade and could see that NC has too much integrity to go to SUC after the way that PC and Lame treated him, all under Mike Garrett's watch.

Now, SC will get what they deserve by hiring Dirty Lame Kiffin.

Encinitas Bruin Author Profile Page said:

In some ways, Kiffin reminds me of CRN when he went to Colorado very wet behind the ears, a brash 30-something who had his players riding down streams on inner tubes. He hadn't yet matured as a man or coach. CRN made some colossal mistakes that followed him from Colorado through Seattle. Since those days, I do think he's matured. A person's 20s and 30s are the time to make most of his or her stupid life mistakes. Hopefully, when 40 rolls around, you've learned through the hard knocks. I think CRN has. At 34, I don't think Kiffin has.

Obviously, LK was very unwise in his press conf to say that he's going to take the offensive play-calling duties. He knew full well that Garrett was hot to "go after Chow," as Garrett was quoted as saying last night (makes it sound like he was hunting an animal, going in for the kill. Creepy.)

Mature tactics tell you to defer on that question - dodge it. At such a delicate time, with the NC hire far from secure, don't make a stupid comment like that and go out of your way to chase off an OC who is revered as a god in Heritage Hall!

For SC, it's like getting Jefferson Davis without Robert E. Lee. ("No thanks, Jefferson, I just got a call from Abe Lincoln and he's going to let me stage my own battles.")

As a UCLA fan, I'm glad our coach seems to have matured since he was 34.

Yes, WE were racist. Thats why WE were one of the only Div 1 schools to hire and promote an African American coach. I dont think there's anyone here that hates Karl Dorrell. Hes a good man. He just isn't a good head coach. We hated him in that role.

Its a good thing USC fans love Mike Garrett so much. Oh wait, they dont. Does that mean all Trojans are racist? Perhaps.

We'll see how many 7-6 seasons Lane Kiffin gives USC before you find yourself hating him.

Here's a very surprising quote from Paul Richardson:

"I like coach [Rick] Neuheisal a lot and he has been personally recruiting me the whole year. I could possibly take another visit if I need to but I just don't know right now. I'm hearing so much stuff and a lot of other schools are even telling me that Coach Neuheisal is going to lose his job, it has been crazy. Just a lot of negative recruiting but I like UCLA a lot and that's where I want to be in the end."

Which coach is telling UCLA recruits that Neuheisal is getting fired???

All you uclans are just the most simpering, whining, blithering bunch of idiots in all the land. The hypocisy is unnerving. The inferiority comnplex that each of you possess is insatiable. Just amazing, it's obvious the newer generation of fans have , quoting Jim Healy , "gone the Leonard Tose route". First of all to WTF, and VB, and all the other vile impudent twerps who troll the wolf site, get a life. there is more to life than college football you know? It is not life and death here folks. But the vitriol is not even funny or clever, it's just jealous ramnlings and it is so obvious. Twist every fact, use every innuendo, first chow's too old, 111th and 88th in the nation in offense the last two years, good riddance, and now oh what a coordinator. I know, I know, theyre young etc. Actually, they just don't have the talent. And they never will. Now you'r ejumping for joy? You can have em, Lane calls plays and that was that. We'll all see who's doing the talking come December 3, and I suspect theyll be crickets chirping on this blog. Bad news equals silence here, good news is reason to gloat. Classless. Every year it's the same, like your recruits say, "we want to get the bruins back on top" The problem is they have NEVER been on top in the first place, there is no "back" to go to. I rememeber your squeals when you got X and Carroll, and Pressley and what did they give you this year? That's why Pete wanted Carroll on defense, and Preslly not as a TE, he was right. So the false optimism is what youve all got to go on, but when youre alone with your thoughts at night and the gameface is put away, you know you will lose again in December at our January home in Pasadena. And your still not Trojans.
