Quick chat with Tyler Lamb
UCLA signee and Mater Dei senior Tyler Lamb will enroll at UCLA early, beginning in the summer session.
"Coach Howland wanted me to enroll during the summer - if i was to stay there all my years, one i would be able to graduate early," Lamb said. "But being there early also gets me a chance to get ready for college basketball."
After summers spent almost exclusively devoted to basketball and training, Lamb looks forward to a summer devoted to the college transition.
"I think I'm ready to just go to college," Lamb said. "Every summer, it's been the same thing for me since the 8th grade - working out, travelling. I think im ready to go to college and step into the adult world."
More quotes after the jump...
On playing time early:
"Coach Howland always tells me that I'm going to have a chance to get playing time. He's kind of putting it my hands to see however I perform."
On the importance of a great recruiting class:
"It's very important to me - Josh Smith is like me, we talk all the time, and it's important to me. We can make another run. For college, I want to be sucessful. I want my team to be succesfful. All aspects succesful."
On his season so far:
"This season thing are going very well for me. We just beat the No. 4 team in the country, and I had 23 points and 11 rebounds, and games like that give me a lot of confidence. I know I might not be able to score that much at the next level, but it just gives me more confidence to go in and play well, do other things besides score."

We need a true PG as well !
Sounds like a very grounded, focused, and determined young man who could turn out to be a strong leader on and off the court.
PLEASE stay 4 years...pleaase...
In between CIF and arriving on campus, he'd better be keeping himself in shape. Otherwise, just like many others before him, he'll be injured by the time CBH opens his summer camp.
Well said, Hogsman.
Welcome to UCLA, Mr. Lamb. You've chosen wisely. We're glad to have you.
Kid sounds as self-absorbed as many today; me thinks he'll do OK but not become a leader or be great. Really hope I'm wrong.
Kid sound self-absorbed. Guess that's what you get nowadays but hope for someone with focus and pride in the team world. Hope I'm wrong but I don't see him as a BRUIN for more than two.
Self absorbed ?? a 17/18 yo? Nooooooo....... Really????
Maybe, just maybe this is the type of recruit, while not ranked #1 or 2 out of high school, will come into college and grow into a leader.
We didn't make our first two final fours on the play of all-world high school recruits. We had good players that played solid defense and bought into the Howland team concept. Maybe UCLA will get back to getting recruits that will work in this system, regardless if they are 5* recruits.
Case in point:
Jrue Holiday didn't do much. He was a top-5 overall recruit.
Russell Westbrook obliterated his opponent and led UCLA to a final four. He was initially a 3 star recruit and only 'became' a 4 star when he committed late to UCLA.
I'm happy to get Lamb. Hopefully he can provide depth next year and develop into a great defender.
Tyler,
Obviously, we as fans can't do much in terms of recruiting, and contacts with recruits. However, you're in a position to talk it up with fellow recruits. Do your magic and wouldn't it be great if you could reach out to some of these recruits that Coach Howland wants and be an extension of UCLA and UCLA Basketball during the recruiting process. Hit it hard - do it. We'd love to see you have an impact and help develop the team to that calibar of play that translates into championships. Thanks for your commitment. We love you, Tyler!
