You have to admit that as a Bruin, Lame Kiffin is among the best possible coaches that $C could possibly hire.
1) He hasn't shown that he can coach and this is not a big time hire to stop the bleeding.
2) He is an pompous rear end so you can go ahead and hate him like Poppa Pete.
3) He is a screw up and he will screw them up worse than they already are.
4) He is also a rule breaker and he will get them deeper into trouble than even Poppa Pete. Can you spell Death Penalty?
5) He will now have the guys in the SEC hating USC the way the rest of the country does.
So Pete leaves to avoid the sanctions, SC gets called out in the media thereby scaring potential recruits, so SC brings in Kiffin to somehow imply that there are no sanctions coming? My guess is it's a 1 yr deal, designed to assuage fears.
Although its probably still not likely since he liked UNC, but it does give us another shot at Brandon Willis.

I really don't understand why Bruin fans are so excited.. Sure Lane is a joke of a coach.. But Monte is an amazing defensive coach, one of the most brilliant out there. And ED'O.. Is the best recruiter in the nation.. BY FAR!! I hope the sanctions come in quick.. Otherwise it's going to continue to be one heck of a battle for recruits. Oh and great class by Lane to bail out on Tennessee.

David - did you watch Tenn play UCLA this year? How about that bowl game against VT? Out-played and out-coached (particularly by Beamer and crew). This is not a bad thing long-term, but will definitely be a good thing for SC as it attempts to save its recruiting season.
I know alot of Toejams are hoping Lane can get Norm Chow on bored, but I would think he has the least chance of luring him over. Found this excerpt:

Yeah I saw the bowl game and watched many of their games. They played well VS Florida and should of beaten Alabama. Did you see UCLA against Oregon or Arizona?is NEU a bad coach?? No.. One bad game or even two doesn't make a coach bad. How about we don't celebrate until we see what happens.

I thought the same thing 9 years ago when they hired Pete. Looming sanctions aside, this is a good hire for SC. He's a great recruiter, a USC insider, brings a good staff, and the potential of some big Tennessee recruits his way....not sure why you all are so excited. I'd have much rather seen a guy like Herm Edwards or Mooch trying to re-learn their craft.
I know he can't coach and is a A-Hole but him and Ed O recruit well. While I think SC could have done better I would have loved Herm Edwards. The life blood of a program is recruiting and Lane and Ed O can recruit. I am not worried, but I think they could have hired worse.
UN-BE-LIEVABLE! This guy is a turd. $UC hoping for Norm Chow to work for this imbecile are delusional. Al Davis (pot) said that Kiffin (kettle) is a "program killer". After doing Tennessee the way he just did, and his issues with his year with the Raiders, this sounds about right.

Quit your crying girls. Norm Chow is coming back home to the land of Troy. Looks like Slick Ricky's Bruins will stay a bit longer in the Pac-1 basement. And USC will reign supreme once more. Alas, things are right with the world. Norm Chow is back at USC. Ed Orgeron is on the phone working all of the UCLA commits. Unemployment at 10%. Gas at over $3. Who cares? Norm Chow is coming home. SUCK it BRUINS. Fight on!!!!!
USC fan here, not going to try to rub anything in regarding Norm Chow. Wish the rest of the USC fans would show some class as well. Looking forward to next years' matchup. Good luck.
Many of my thoughts have already been said by others, but in summary: 1) suc succeeded be in picking a guy we can hate much more than petey, 2) Asshole is a polite way to describe him, 3) do not be surprised at anything that comes out of his mouth, much of it untruths, 4) Yes he's got some great assistants, let's hope those sanctions do come down, and soon, and 5) I'm not sure we should cry over losing Chow - he never did quite blend with our system and team, and now coach RN (who I'm sure is still overjoyed over these whole proceedings) will be able to pick an OC more compatible with what he wants to do. "Lame" is good, but up north here we also like to call him "Lance," the name given to him by an admittedly senile Al Davis (see no. 2 above).
