Weekly Answers, Pt. 3
1) How great would it be if UCLA's arena were as nice as SDSU's? - Blue Bruin
Yes, but SDSU's was built in '96 and has absolutely zero history. Cool, they rushed the floor after an NIT win in 2003. I'd say 11 national championships means a bit more.
2) Does UCLA have a shot at Markeith Ambles? What about the wide receivers who have already committed to USC? - Anonymous
No.
3) I know this is a bigger question than a sports blog needs/should deal with because there are so many other issues that go with it (and I do not know if you have been asked before) - but here goes anyway: Do you think the UCLA administration should "open things up" (to whatever degree) to make it "easier" for admissions of student athletes? - JJA42
Absolutely not. UCLA is an institution of higher learning, and it is a public institution. To ease up on the admission standards would be an insult to the 35,000-plus students. There are plenty of smart football players to go around. Neuheisel seems to be a pretty good so far, no?
4) Will abdul-hamid return to the hoops team next year? - Anonymous
Howland would be insane not to force MAH to return. Talk about a guy with guts and character. Easily one of the most likeable athletes I've ever met, and with such little experience returning, he needs to be back.
5) Will Thigpen get buried deep in the depth chart next season behind Jones, James, and Franklin? Will Thigpen move to cornerback? - anonymous
Thigpen won't get moved to CB, but I don't see how he can start over those three. I like Thigpen a lot - a quick burst, solid moves. But he just isn't big enough to be an every-down back. Now, if NC uses him creatively - which they tried to do at times this season - he could be a major offensive factor. Big if, though.

Damn! ....Lame has lots of UT recruits coming this weekend...i wonder how many they called the night they left to SuC???? Lots of limos and Rang Rovers this weekend at SuC....Maybe Riley will get turned off with all the smell of cheating too...
Thigpen needs to be returning punts and kicks full time next year now that TA is finally gone. I love TA but he just didn't have the speed to finish those touchdowns. Always down to the 20 or 10 yard line only to get caught and watch the offense settle for 3... gaaah!
IMO Josh Smith will return next year because he is already proven to be an amazing return man look up his videos on you tube and be impressed with what we will get next year from him.
"To ease up on the admission standards would be an insult to the 35,000-plus students."
I believe the student body is more insulted by how bad their sports teams have been. No Rose Bowl in 11 years is embarrassing. They want sports programs they can be proud of.
And regarding special admits, the reason why schools like ASU and Oregon have relatively low numbers of special admits is because just about everyone get's admitted into their school. I'd say 95% of their student body would be special admits into UCLA, let alone their athletes, and those are the programs we compete with.
Without special admits, UCLA would have the worse sports programs in the conference and would ultimately have to leave the Pac 10.

Looking for some quick advice from bRuins. I know this is a bit off-topic from Football, but I am confident that there are lots of smart Bruins that read this blog, so I thought I would post this here since I don't practice law at such a low level/Criminal Defense.
Here is my problem. A friend of mine is using my third car that normally just sits in our 3-car garage in Coto (Mrs. BE REAL uses my second car). I just received a notice in the mail. My friend was photographed running a red light in Beverly Hills, and there is a fine and summons under MY NAME. I know I can call the police station and give my friend's information, but my question for the UCLA Board is what if I don't want to "snitch" on my pal?
The driver in the photo is clearly not me, so I figure there's no way a judge can issue me a ticket for something I clearly didn't do, but what are the repercussions from refusal to identify the driver? Can I plead the 5th Amendment/ Right To Remain Silent/ Self Incrimination?
Thanks for your help. My summons is set for this Wednesday, January 28. I know, I know, I left things for the last minute.
BE REAL
Be Real-
Just show up at court. The judge will likely dismiss when he sees it is not you in the photo. I used to work for a rental car company & accompanied a renter who received a photo ticket for a vehicle that was actually driven by one of our part-time drivers who was delivering it to her. We (the rental comapny) did not have to identify who was driving. The case was just dismissed.
If you have a place in Coto, and have 3 cars ... don't be a cheapass and just pay the ticket ... My .02
As always, "BE REAL" and "LAWYER JOHN" without a typekey isn't the real individual. You can pretty much tell by the style of writing if you look at one of the authentic messages anyway.
Usually, it's the Bruin's own spedjones trying to instigate.
like all trOJies, i am confident that ultimately, BE REAL will squeal on his friend. a trOJie or any member of their attendant posse is a sure bet to eventually squeal...just ask Reggie, OJ (both I & II) JoMac, i can go on and on...
whereas our beloved Pappa G kept his yap shut for years and allowed us to take a small tap on the wrist years later when no one cared. oh it was so sugar sweeeeet!
compare to trOJies who have endured a conga line of squealers and are now sweating it out every day waiting...waiting....waiting for the hearing.
moral of the story: never trust a trOJie.
They will make you pay the ticket even if it was not you
Because the Registration is in your name, it will not matter to the Court that the photo is not you.
They will probably ask you who it is on the photo, and also ask you why you did not make your friend pay the fine.....I doubt the 5th will work for your Situation
Good Luck Thursday
As in every school out there, the athletes are getting degrees in their particular sport. Their qualifications are measured in things such as the 40 yard dash as opposed to the SAT's. Game tapes are their applications.
So it's not lowering the academic standards that would be happening, it's just judging them by the school's athletic standards.
Yes, go to court and prove that it isn't you in the picture. The judge will ask you who was driving your car. Stay strong and don't give your friend up. The judge will find you in contenpt and throw your sorry ass in the cell with B. Bonds trainer and then we won't have to worry about your stupid posts on our blog.
To the first poster, USC has three visitors this weekend and only two had offers on the table from Tennessee. Markeith Ambles has been a partially-silent commit to USC since the Pete Carroll era and Josh Shirley has stated he has absolutely no interest in being a Vol since they offered.
So try again at making a smart remark, this time around you just looked foolish.
Looks like the fake BE REAL can get his own brethren (I'm looking at you UCLAVES and Charlie Bucket) more than the actual troll.
Kudos to you reverse-troll. Looks like you definitely earned a solid education at UCLA.
