Weekly Answers, Pt. 4
1) What are the chances that Howland shakes up his coaching staff next year? Realistically he's not going to "cut" any players (see SC) and he's pretty stubborn to change his whole coaching style. So I would assume that the first blow would be to his assistants, to bring in some new blood to tweak some things. Am I crazy to think this? - UCLA3
I wouldn't be surprised.
2) Jon, do you think Randall Carroll can eventually be as good as Desean Jackson?.. they seem to be similar players in my mind - Anonymous
That's a pretty lofty comparison. He's fast, but I'm not sure if he's as football fast - the ability to maintain speed while cutting a
3) One answer that gives a consolidated recruiting review would be great. Heimuli and Barr are my two biggest questions, but any light you can shine on all would be appreciated. - Eddieboomboom
Heimuli looks pretty good, but it's certainly no guarantee. Barr is getting major heat from Notre Dame, and while I would still be surprised if he didn't end up at UCLA, it's less certain than a month ago.
4) Could Mike Leach keep Bruin football players from "going over the wall?" - Anonymous
I think Mike Leach would say..."There is no wall." And then try to run right through it. He probably could.
5) Why was Morrell Pressley not a bigger impact this season? Was he just too far down in the depth chart or was there something else going on? - San Diego Therapist
For whatever reason, he just never appeared comfortable to me this season. He had some miscues in practice, and I don't think the coaching staff felt he did enough with the plays he got. Plus, UCLA's wide receivers were brilliant at times, and it's hard to justify limiting them when their talent was so tantalizing and unpredictable.

Wha...Jon posting at 9AM?? Thanks
I can think of one way Mike Leach would keep his players from going over the wall!
did I just read that "our WRs were brilliant at times" last season? What team are we talking about? What season did I miss?
Jon was thinking about the 4th quarter of Oregon State and Washington State game when said "our WRs were brilliant at times"...
The entire offense looked good against cal as well.
1. I'd put the passing game weaknesses on the QB more than the WRs.
2. Presley should be a TE
3. R. Carroll is too small to be a CB
4. The answer to my Mike Leach question. Best answer ever.
This is all in my humble opinion.
UCLA3: You are correct. Part of our recent demise is that we miss Kerry Keating. Before taking the head job at Santa Clara, he was our top recruiter, as well as helpful on the practice court.
