Weekly Answers, Pt. 4
1) Hoops: During a typical week of Pac-10 games, how many days and hours does the team practice? - Anonymous
About four days of practice, and around 8-10 hours.
2) What contribution should be expected from Stover throughout his career? BTW, is he red-shirting this year? - Blue Bruin
Yes, he's redshirting, and we haven't seen enough of him to know his expectations.
3) Am I the only one that thinks Anthony Barr will be a much better running back than Malcolm Jones. I know the coaches are going to give them both there shot at RB, and will likely move one to the defensive side of the ball. So I'm just wondering what your guess is as to how it all turns out. - Bruin44
I like Barr a lot, but at 6-foot-4, he's a big, big target. Unless he has the strength of a Brandon Jacobs, which is extremely rare in running backs, I don't see him beating Jones out. I do however, think Barr would make for a fantastic safety or linebacker - or go the TCU route and convert him to defensive end and watch him go to the NFL.
4) Is Wade Yandall enrolled? If not, when? - UCLA3
Yandall will enroll in March in time for Spring ball.
5) I'm sure many of the followers of this blog will say one of the key days of the year is football's national signing day. Any plans for how you will be covering the signings? (Hint: I believe Dohn had postings throughout the day last year) - tim warren
I plan to be at UCLA all day, with a chat starting in the morning and open throughout the day, a brief respite to record a special signing day podcast, and live updates all day on twitter (@TheCoolSub) and the Inside UCLA Facebook page.

I would like to follow you on Facebook. Do you have a fan page? Thanks.
Chats are hard to follow unless you can be on for the entire time...are you also going to have posts when the recruits make their choices?
i agree that Barr is just too tall for a RB. That is a nasty size for a safety. If his speed is legit, he could be great there.
Wait - What are we talking about?
anon @ 1130: since you are so afraid, no worries, SUC also lost their strength and conditioning coach who went with Cheat to the NFL. And we know he must be a completely clean, non-steroid promoter.
Hey Jon - please provide updates on the blog. Facebook is blocked at many offices and chats / podcasts aren't helpful that often. Last year on signing day Dohn's quick updates throughout the day on the blog were amazing and kept a lot of us in the loop. Thanks!
Great Job Jon, you're finally starting to step it up. I really liked your Fire and Ice feature and I think it was long overdue.
The Signing Day Chat is huge too. I was really disappointed that Brian didn't do one last year and I was forced to go on Wolfie's site for his 24/7 chat. He practically ran 24 hours that day. I really look forward to yours. Being able to get the scoop LIVE on campus will be sweet.
Why would any player or coach want to go to SUC when sanctions are looming? Why take that risk?
With Kiffin at the helm who HAS HISTORY of NCAA violations, suc will be under the proverbial NCAA microscope.
Why would anyone take any job at SUC before sanctions? It's called money. Sanctions or not, they still get paid. If they sign a $500,000/year deal for 5 years, they're going to be paid that no matter what sanctions are given. The guys Lame is bringing in, just want to be paid.
Why kill the goose that lays golden eggs? Life isn't fair, never has and never will. If you're rich and powerful in any profession or business, you can use that as leverage to bend or break rules and laws. SUC is just an example of that we see everyday in all aspects of life. It is what it is. And it's never going to change. America, land of opportunities!
Incoming players don't care about any possible sanctions at USC. All that would happen is that some past wins will be vacated like what happened to UCLA basketball in 1980.
And the most that would happen to the future of the program is maybe some lost scholarships which recruits should be happy about. It will cut down on competition for starting spots.
Are you people on crack? LOIC is a big deal and SUC is going to get hammered with sanctions including post-season ban for a few years as well as vacating wins (losing their national championship and a half) and loss of scholarships.
Also, if you want proof of what the sanctions will look like just look at SUC's basketball program and their self-imposed sanctions. SUC will not only vacate wins losing their 1.5 national championships, SUC will lose scholarships, days/amount of visits to recruit, post-season ban, and more. Also, none of these coaches that they're bringing in are high profile or any good. They're almost all coming in through nepotism with big contracts and they're coming to just make money, no matter how bad the sanctions will be. It's the kids that are going to suffer.
No offense to the anonymous poster above either, but if all of SUC's wins are vacated then you can bet your butt that their 1.5 national championships will be stripped as well by the BCS and AP. Why don't you think before you speak.
Yes, the BCS championship can (and should) be taken away. Oh, and by the way, by participating in the BCS, your school agrees that the winner of the BCS game IS the national champion, so even claiming the 0.5 (AP) championship is ingenuous and an insult to LSU. In fact, if you look at it, almost every "championship" in $c's history is shared.
Just think, it is just a matter of time before the two most infamous Heisman trophies will both be ketchup and mustard stained...
Oh my. People the "fall of troy" does not equate to UCLA success.
Lack of institutional control isn't going to happen. Neither are bowl bans. The BCS trophy may be taken but nobody's' going to care about the crystal ball in twenty years any more than the Helms Athletic Foundation championship trophy.
And the AP sportswriters aren't going to bother to get together and vote to see if a majority of them want to give the trophy to another undecided-upon team. Hell, not even all the same sports reporters are in the AP half a decade ago. And if for some God-forsaken reason they do go re-organize that group, the sportswriters are already so pissed at the BCS (remember how they forced them to take their poll out of the formula?) they'll keep USC the champions out of spite.
Relax everyone, UCLA looks to have a strong recruiting class. Take pride in the positive.

I'm sure Joe Barry is a nice person but as far as defensive talent:
Former defensive Coordinator of Detroit: ranked 32nd in both '07 and '08.
Stats for his Tampa Bay Linebackers in '09 were:
291 Tackles, 3 Sacks, 3 Fumble Recoveries and 3 INTs.
Bruin LBs in '09 was:
293 Tackles, 10 Sacks, 5 Fumble Recoveries and 4 INTs
Coach Bullough seems to not have much to wory about with the the cross town Linebacker Coach.
