Dragovic sore and game-time decision, Lane to test ankle today

UCLA senior forward Nikola Dragovic is sore but could still be available for Saturday’s matchup with Oregon, head coach Ben Howland said during today’s conference call.

Dragovic doubled over in pain, clutching his shoulder after colliding with an Oregon State player while diving for a loose ball. After exiting the game for a brief period, Dragovic was held scoreless in the first half, but notched 14 points in the second half.

Like teammate Brendan Lane, who is going to test his sprained ankle today, Dragovic will likely be a game-time decision.

The first time Dragovic dives for a ball he gets injured. If that were Alfred, the OSU players would have cracked ribs today.

So, if we don’t have Nelson, Keefe, Lane, and Dragovic, what does our lineup look like? Bobo-C, Honeycutt-PF, Roll-SF, Lee-SG, and Anderson-PG, with Mustafa and Moser off the bench? Bobo can’t play that long without a break because of conditioning and we have no backups for the 4 and 5 position. Who is the first walk-on big off the bench? He better be ready to go, just in case.

I’ve seen John Wooden interviewed a number of times. He hated it when players dove for balls for exactly the reason that they get injured. He always coached them to NEVER dive for balls. Why is it we suddenly think this foolish venture is a sign of a good player? Idiots.
