Cut me, Mick

| | Comments (13) |

After seeing the massive, gruesome bubble above Reeves Nelson's right eye, the first thought immediately is, "Cut me, Mick."

Rocky's fall after a dunk late in the first half against Washington State left him with 15 stitches and an even more menacing look. Nelson returned to the bench midway through the second half with the Bruins' nursing a big lead, but upon advice from team doctors, UCLA head coach Ben Howland kept him there.

Nelson said he expected to play against Washington and did not think the doctors would be doing any blood-letting.

"If they needed to do that, I don't think they'd let me play," Nelson said. "I'm just going to ice it pretty aggressively the next 48 hours. I guess it just happens and as long as it doesn't hurt too much, I don't care that much."

But there goes your modeling career?
"Yeah...I think that disappeared a long time ago," Nelson said with a smile.

Quickly becoming my favorite Bruin warrior of the current bunch. I'm almost convinced that Reeves is the more athletic reincarnation of Alfred Aboya.

It's so awesome having a monster like this on the roster for the next four years! I can't wait til next year when he can hopefully move to his natural PF position and let Bobo or maybe Josh Smith (if he's ready) take over at the 5.

he is not more athletic than Alfred Aboya. He might have a better natural feel for the game than Alfred, but definitely not more athletic...don't you remember him dunking on Noah off the inbounds in the championship game?

Reeves is certainly not more athletic than Aboya. Reeves is more polished, has much better ball skills, and is a better around-the-rim finisher definitely...but Aboya has him beat for sure on pure athleticism.

As long as the term "athleticism" doesn't include hand-eye coordination and body control.
