Riley talks to ESPN about USC visit

| | Comments (25) |

St. Francis safety Dietrich Riley spoke with ESPN's Greg Biggins about his official visit and, well, he didn't seem too thrilled. I've spoken with him after former visits and read his reactions to others and...he just wasn't as over-the-top. Combine that with his unofficial visit to UCLA after his official to USC on Sunday night and...

Here's the article, but you might have to be an ESPN insider for it: Riley for ESPN

Also, here's his Scout.com recruiting profile: Riley

* To clarify, Riley had his official visit with USC this weekend, then chose to head to UCLA for an unofficial visit on Sunday night, after his official was complete.

Hi Jon, may want to correct -- should read, "didn't seem *too* thrilled"

as to the post, I am confused -- where did the official visit take place to which you are referring? Was it to USC or UCLA? ...confused...what does this mean in terms of UCLA?

Thanks!

"The guy sounds like a tool anyway."

Classic POT/Kettle example.

BruininSeattle,

Riley had an official to sc, after which he made another unofficial to Westwood last night.

Well everthing this kid does is a mystery, but the fact that he and Zumwalt and Zumwalt's parents went to see CRN after the SC visit only means good things. The only reason Riley is not a 5 star his do to his speed and movement, yet he is at the right place most of the time and he accelerates well to the ball and lays the wood ala Horton and Paige.

"Drooling"? Nobody's 'drooling' over anybody. We're still interested in Riley because he's a quality athlete with the grades to get into UCLA. Of course we have quality defensive backs already in the program but we can never stand still. You continue to add quality or you go backwards. Riley would be a nice 'get' and would fit well with what we're trying to put together. The tone of your post leads some of us to suspect you're a closet Trojan. I feel bad for you.

Make no mistake about it. Riley has been in love with USC for a long time and it appears he isn't getting the love he wants, and hopefully will pick UCLA. Does that mean, we don't want him? He will be a solid player if he comes to UCLA.

By the way, is he like 20 years old?

VB, in a couple of years the safety position will be manned by Stan McKay, Dalton Hilliard and Alex Mascarenas. Not trying to denigrate them, but none were the "5 star stud" that you ARE denigrating Riley for not being. There could be position shuffles, but I think getting Riley would be a nice get for a position of need...especially since we have no other commits this year at safety.

It's called residual depth VB. By the way, how's Irvine?

Why do people keep obsessing if a kid is a 5 star stud or not? I'd rather have a 4 star kid with great potential (ala Colt McCoy, Sam Bradford, or even a 3 star like Toby Gerhart) than a 5 star "stud" like Vidal Hazelton or Mitch Mustain. Just saying.

I think Riley is a douche bag just yanking our chain...hes been back and forth for months...I dont think grades are as big of factor at ucla as you might think...look at brian price and carter last year...I doubt they were lighting up the classroom.

St. Francis is a good private school, and he has a great GPA. Letting in a football player with such a relatively high GPA could allow admissions to ease up on another recruit if need be...

Wow - bashing a high-schooler for having a difficult time deciding what university to attend? Some of you are just way too high and mighty.

The kid is going to UCLA. He, Zumwalt and Jackson all visited USC over the weekend, and they all came away unimpressed. Kiffin is better with the kids from the South when it comes to recruiting. Discerning kids see the lack of substance pretty easily.

he is smart as he has no chance of starting at USC until maybe as a senior. We vhave many better players than him.

As a St. Francis alum, I hear nothing but good things about the kid. St. Francis is a great school that demands a lot of academic commitment to achieve a good GPA. The kid's obviously hard-working and smart. Plus, he's a great football player.

I hope we land him.

You still got it, VB! You make a comment clearly intended to jerk the blog's collective chain, and the trolls trip over their shoe laces and bust a cork. You would think by now they would know your game, but it is amusing to watch them fall for the same trap over and over again.

Yeah, daddy! I called him a "d-bag". Heh heh.

To VB and UB:

Vb,
I've been a fan in the past but you can't talk about a 17 year old kid like that. Even if you are messing around, you come off as a douche-nizzle for shizzle.

UB,
I know he's your son and all but that is not how you jerk someones chain...

And VB what's up with ultimatebruin.com??? I'm the one that asked for those recipes like a year ago... I got some of my own bro. Don't make me start my own website for the SBTA (Super Bruin Tailgate Authority). We could have a battle opening day next year. F the surf and turf I got something for you...
