The mixed bag

As the excitement of the 1-2-3-4 punch of Owa, Shirley, Jefferson and Riley started to die down, UCLA's cross-town rivals picks up a major commitment in OL Seantral Henderson. Remember, Bruin fans: As good as UCLA's defensive class is, USC's offensive class is also fantastic.

How many of those will be around when SC gets sanctioned?

Jons, jigs832 here. Any chance Neuheisel's 5:30 press conference is open to the public?

UCLA and Sc are not joined at the hip. That's a horrible mindset. Teams play to win GAMES, not a game. They both got great recruiting classes. I don't think anyone is disappointed right now.

They could have all the offensive power they want, but history has shown that when Lame calls the plays, they fall.

How many season with Henderson play in college though?

Has reported letters were received from all the other players except those on this list.

Everyone needs to See Owa put Henderson on his rear end. OWA IS A BEAST.

Don't fret fightonbruin, that's something no one has to worry about.

PeterUCLA Author Profile Page said:

Yea, but with Lame Kiffen calling the plays, how potent will their offense really be?

Mario DiLeo Author Profile Page said:

As a JC transfer, Marquis Jackson does not sign a LOI but a Grant-in-Aid document, commiting UCLA to pay his tuition. Apparently, he needs to finish some credits in Summer school before joining the team. Moore is another story as he doesn't yet qualify acadamically to UCLA. So he will probably have to grayshirt which means he will not be a Bruin until after the 2010 football season is over as he will be attending classes at a JuCo somewhere in the fall, assuming he still wants to come to UCLA...

The Bruins got almost everyone they wanted so it doesn't matter what $UC did/did not do...let the sanctions begin!

Maybe I'm delusional from today's high re: the recruiting class, but I feel in my heart of hearts that the tide has turned at USC. With Kiffin at the helm, that ship is going down, with or without NCAA sanctions. Kiffin talks the talk, and that may have gotten the recruits there this year, but what's gonna happen after a year of mediocrity, when everyone sees that this is no longer the behemoth known as USC football? The luster is waning, my friends. I really could care less who USC's landed. We've got a great class, so let's start with that! Go Bruins!

Yes, the USC football ship is sinking after getting the #2 recruiting class in the nation. Down they go.

"how many seasons will Henderson play in college?"

Three if he lives up to his billing, isn't that about what is to be expected from a potential-reaching Josh Shirley?

To steal from the headline, it's a "mixed bag" when it comes to players leaving early. If they can leave, that means they're playing at a pro-level and weren't a bust.

Bruins' glaring weakness over the past few years has been the O-line. Think about all the injuries that could have been averted if we were better at protecting the QB.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled with this recruiting class... defensively.

And yes, I'm thrilled with Chris Ward and Kody Innes. Any word on Jay Barlow?

Congrats to UCLA for pulling in a very solid class. Weird how UCLA is stocking up on the secondary and USC answered with WRs.
I am very glad that the Pac 10 is finally starting to improve its recruiting b/c it makes everybody better including my beloved USC.
BTW, does anyone know why Pullard and Shirley don't like each other?
I think next year's class will be the one that will truly dictate whether UCLA can continue to recruit top notch recruits considering that some analysts are citing Carroll's departure as a reason for UCLA's success though the only recruits I see affected were Riley and maybe Zumwalt.
The one good thing is that USC/UCLA is starting to look more like a rivalry. Best of luck to your squad except when they play USC.

Mike H class of 90 said:

Congrats to 'SC on another great class. Let's see how they pan out, though. As much as they may tout the signings of Woods, Prater and Ambles, for example, let's look at their past WR:

2006 Hazelton (#1 WR that year) transferred
2006 Ausberry (5 star) 10 catches this yr
2006 Holland (4 star) transferred
2006 Patterson (4 star) 3 catches this yr
2007 Carswell (4 star) 5 catches this yr
2008 Shoemate (5 star) he's a fullback now
2008 Butler (4 star) 19 catches (woo!)
2009 Flournoy (4 star) did he play this year?

All in all, Terrence Austin (4 star from 2006) had almost as many catches this year as all of their 4/5 star WR combined from the past 4 years! Good luck to Woods/Prater/Ambles...

35% of SC's recruits were WR or TE. I'll take our chances against the rest of their team with Neu coaching against Kiffin.

Anonymous said:

The gap has definitely not closed. You're telling me USC everyone uses the threat of sanctions as a negative recruiting tool, their coach left weeks ago, and the new regime comes in under a ton of negative scrutiny. And, they still have the number two recruiting class in the country? We're posting videos bragging about one rep. One rep? I'm not celebrating this. Great class, but, what more can we do to catch them?

who says the toejams are #2? with kitten in charge, UCLA, Stanford and others now have missle lock on the toejams.

The toejam BB team can advise their FB team how it feels to play with sanctions

nice to see our bruins reel in a good class, but let's be realistic and not get in a tizzy about it. In reality, until we can beat the Trojans a few times in a row (not just a fluke like a few years ago), we're fooling ourselves thinking that Lane Kiffin, possible sanctions or talented freshmen are going to help us change the "landscape" of LA college football. Doesn't matter for Mike H to review the busts the trojans had, because until last year they still owned the pac10 and have had plenty of talent to spare. Hopefully Neuheisel can pull some decent coaching skills out of his a$$ and somewhat develop the new talent, otherwise the crosstown rivalry will continue to be a thing of the past, and the only competition the damn trojans will be worried about will be coming from the SEC every January, and we'll continue to be the LA Clippers of Socal college football.

interesting how with possible sanctions, south central can still convince these kids to attend? but since they actually don't have to attend class it isn't a hard sell after all.

I wonder how big of a signing bonus Henderson negotiated?
