How about an article on Josh Smith being named a McDonald's all american??? None of my usual UCLA websites have posted anything...where is the love...all anyone does these days is complain.
i hope they don't let go of the gas pedal like they did vs Cal
Has the editor read this story? It needs some proof reading and corrections before going to print.
To say this is THE pivotal game of this season might be overstatement but just barely.
please don't show that score again. you're mean
"We want to show we can compete with USC"
wow.
SC-ucla myths dispelled (Part 2):
Bruins like to say how beautiful their campus and surrounding area is as opposed to SC being in "South Central" and being in a "slum-area."
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder-- do you like blondes or brunettes?
First, for bruins to state that SC is in South Central and mean it in a derogatory way, smacks of racism. Second, SC is not in South Central, that area begins some 5-miles or so south of the SC campus. Third, the surrounding area of SC is not a slum, it is bordered on the south by the largest rose gardens in the world, and the historical coliseum. Yes, the houses surrounding SC are small, but most are well-kept and cute.
Fourth, the area to the north, a mere few miles, is the true Los Angeles-- Figueroa Street cutting through the beautiful part of downtown, along with the historical section, and the rebuilding of the area around Staples Center, not to mention one of the best city parks in America, Elysian Park. Downtown is my favorite L.A. area and in fact is where I hold down a residence.
Finally, the SC campus has a cozy, comfortable feel to it, has some beautiful open areas, and has a central location on campus that is easy to find and one in which most of the campus affairs take place.
Now, ucla is no slouch in matters of aesthetics, at least the east side of the campus off of Westwood Boulevard (I know, I know, it changes its name at the ucla border but it still is 'Westwood Boulevard') which is marked with history, open spaces, and the statue garden. And, yes, the homes north of Sunset Boulevard are to die for.
But I have criticisms-- I have held down a second residence in Westwood for over a year now, but I am abandoning the place. I love the 'woods of the westside' with the myriad varieties of trees, but the people on the Westside are overly arrogant and self-centered as opposed to the real people in downtown. (But more about bruins vs Trojans' personalities tomorrow).
Also, the Westside is guilty of too much growth in too small of a place. The traffic conditions have changed incredibly, even in the past 5-years. It can take 30-minutes to move from the Santa Monica beach to the westside.
And although the Westside homes are quite nice, and even at times spectacular, they don't have a homey, welcoming feel to them. And of course they are out of reach for over 90% of Angelenos so they also have an overindulgent, elitist feel to them.
LAWYER JOHN
This dude gives lawyers a bad name.
Do you have your eyes closed on your way to USC's campus? "Well-kept and cute?" I have not EVER heard someone praise the houses surrounding USC's campus. No doubt that there are some great people living there; but it is a very rough area. Would you walk around the outskirts of SC by yourself at night? Would you let your 18 year old daughter do the same?
That is the difference between USC's campus and UCLA's campus. Both are gorgeous campuses; but one makes you feel safe and the other keeps you in the dorm room.
Give Honeycutt a break, he is a freshman... he doesnt know any better yet. I'm sure he'll take enough grief for that comment from his friends. We dont need to jump all over him too. He'll learn!
There is a reason students from USC go to Westwood to relax and hang out.
Lawyer John,
You're missing the point. Things are so bad in Westwood one of their basketball players wants to "show we can complete with USC"
... in basketball.
When is Lawyer John going to get a case?
And another thing...
from today's edition of the L.A. Times, "L.A. sees 29% jump in bike thefts, prompting some vigilante justice
Downtown L.A., parts of Hollywood, Venice and the USC campus area are hot spots as nearly 2,000 bicycles are reported stolen in 2009."
You Fu$c trolls are a frickin joke! You all dismiss the the one season this decade that the UCLA football team beat the trogans (to knock them out of the BCS championship game by the way) as a fluke and you are all here on the Bruin boards boasting about the Fu$c basketball team possibly being better than UCLA's for the first time in what.....EVER?
Get a life trolls!!!!
I have walked from the Coliseum through the Fu$c campus at night after a supercross back in the day and I only had 3 cars stop to ask me if I wanted some crack so the area isn't all that bad.
GO BRUINS!!!
Sorry guys for one of us just being dumb on these boards.
Can't we all just get along?.....Can't we get along?
So apparently robear20 looks like a crackhead.
Like mother, like son.
TrojanFan, if it were ONLY one. Actually, there are only a handful of UCLA "trolls" on Wolfs blog and there probably are only a few USC "trolls" here (though it's hard to tell since they post as "Anonymous" most of the time). Unfortunately, the people trying to stir the pot have been pretty busy the last couple of months. I personally don't mind USC people posting legitimate questions and comments here (I think it's reasonable to be interested in what's going on with your chief rival) but would love it if we could "get along" a little better.

I thought that was you brother, tell mom I said hi if you can get her out of the crack den.
By the way, are you going home tonight or do you have to work up in West Hollywood again? Make sure you take a jacket it is supposed to be cold on the streets tonight.
Oh yea,......GO BRUINS!!!!!!!
