Weekly Answers, Pt. 5

1) Shabazz Muhammad was visiting USC for the UCLA game, did you see him and if so how did he seem at the end of the night? What are the odds that he commits to either program? - Tustin PaulI didn't see him, but I'd heard he was there. I covered his high school extensively a couple years back, and Grant Rice and I got pretty close, so I'm sure I'll keep up with him. Regarding UCLA/USC commitment...it's two years away. Who knows? Here's his recruiting profile: http://hsnevada.scout.com/a.z?s=161&p=8&c=1&nid=4020486
2) Can you tell us how Basketball recruiting is going for CBH?....AND if he is still going after PG's Ray McCallum, and Trey Zeigler ? - H8T SuCHoops recruiting has somewhat stalled for the time being, but with several big-name players left on the market, I think Howland lands at least one major name. Yes he's going after McCallum and Zeigler.
3) You posted in December that a "big name" player was about to commit to UCLA football. Who was it, 3nd what happened that delayed the commitment? - Sunset BruinThe player that I referred to was Owa. I'd heard in December that he was pretty much locked up. Nebraska and OSU made huge pushes late in the game that certainly made him think, but as far back as December, he was pretty much a Bruin.
4) Typically how many of the questions do you get to? and what type of questions are you looking for? It seems you really don't get to a good portion of the questions here but always answer one joking around about food or tv shows? - TheuclanI get to every question I can answer. I'm not omnipotent, I have no idea if a 2012 commit is going to pick the Bruins. Many of the questions, I try to get back to at a later date. But I don't know everything (queue the "or anything" line). Regarding OT questions, why not? People have fun with them. I have fun with them.
5) Not really apples to apples but... what's more impactful to 2010-2011, a good qb or a good pg? - cliqGreat question, but it really is a tough one. I don't think Kevin Prince is the key to the football season. He has enough returning talent offensively and enough familiarity with the system that he just needs to get the job done. If he goes off for a great year, maybe they get up to 8 wins, but I think their ceiling right now is about 7 wins either way. Clearly, UCLA hoops needs a point guard. I'm not so sure Malcolm Lee is the answer. Even with time. There are reasons Howland's best PGs have been smaller guys - the perimeter offensive style Howland runs - move the ball around the edges, try to work it inside, rinse, repeat - does not lend itself to a 6-foot-5 point guard. They're too exposed at the top of the key. UCLA needs a point guard and needs one now. So, I guess that's my call.

we would be overachieving to get 7 wins. 7 wins! wooooohooooooo. we might actually make a pac-10 affiliated bowl game. maybe we can graduate to the emerald nut bowl like our hated rivals. They got there on a down year, and we'll get there on an overachieving season. hope we draw more than 45,000 to our home games. what can we do to improve our school that cal has already done?
How about a report on the strength and conditioning, speed work and seven on sevens going on right now...
Hey JON i know we are all pissed that our men bb lost to suc but how about a round of aplause for coach Nikki sticking it to that classless trash Cooper?CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP!

It's too bad all of Sam Gilbert's money went to John Wooden's players, it would have been nice to use some for Pauley
Good for Bruins on the Pauley remodel. Sure the history there is awesome, but the program and the fans really deserve better...
Even though I root for the other side of town, I try to go to at least one UCLA basketball game at Pauley a year.
Look forward to seeing it.
And I apologize for the Trojan trolls on this board... we aren't all the same folks...
Wow out of the millions of trashy sucsters we have found one respectable one KELPHUS!THEY DO EXIST!
jon - thanks for the response. yea.. I went the UW game... we need a PG bad.
kelphus - no biggie. trolls are on both boards. but it's always nice to find classy fans on both sides of the rivalry, as it should be!
