Weekly Answers, Pt. 1

Check out the first batch of weekly answers after the jump...

1) The coaches will be 3 QBs available this season. Are they concerned about the depth at this position? And if you were ranking this group over the rest of the Pac10 QBs where would they fall? - Gerry4UCLA
Yes, they're concerned about depth, but every coach in America is concerned about QB depth. Most programs don't have more than three real options at quarterback. Depending on Prince's progress, I put the group anywhere from 5th-8th.

2) Any chance that Jermine Anderson was playing hurt this year? Just curious. - Anonymous
He was definitely playing hurt earlier in the season, and while his groin may have healed, his ego didn't. Very hard to get your mojo back when doubt creeps in, especially prolonged doubt. If he buys into the system and the program, I have no doubt he's talented enough to be a starting PG at UCLA.

3) Chad Ford, among others, are suggesting that Malcolm Lee will declare for the draft. Do you think that Lee bolts for the NBA? - Anonymous
Declaring for the draft and being drafted are two different things. He should be back.

4) How does UCLA stand with Max Wittek and where do you think he falls on UCLA's wish list for QB's? - Anonymous
They fare very well for him, and I think Neuheisel can close the deal on him. He's very high on the want list.

5) Objectively, what should UCLA fans be most concerned about heading in to spring practice? - Reformed Droog
Biggest concern, obviously, is defensive tackle. But I come from the school of thought that one good defensive tackle, which David Carter is, is sufficient. I really believe linebacker will be the position of concern come fall.

Groin injures can definitely hurt your mojo.

Thats the first major vote of confidence I've read anywhere for David Carter. I hope you're right.

I wouldnt be suprised if teams run it right down our throats next year. Carter is solid. He showed he can be stout against the run and make plays. The problem is the other spot is a complete unknown and DT's are rotated constantly so it is a huge area of concern.

The other DT's:

Keane - 5th year scholarship DT/OL who has STILL not seen any action in his career

Edison - 4th year player who has only seen a few plays at DE. Now has been converted to DT

Chandler - Converted TE

Carter - converted LB

Pretty bad!

Judging from all the talented guards currently playing in the NCAA and NIT tournaments, Malcolm Lee looks like about the 200th best guard in college basketball so I would say good luck in the NBA draft. He's not even as good as a lot of Division II guards. In fact, I don't think he could play pro right now for Kazakhstan. Who is filling this guy's head?

David Carter is horrible. The guy is an overgrown DE who was to stiff in the hips to stay there. He does not have the leverage to be an effective tackle.

Is that the LA county fair, Jon? Come on, man, that is ridiculously less than professional. Did you take a class from Senora Ross?

Relax pal. Players declare for the Draft all the time, solely for the purpose of being evaluated by NBA coaches and with no intentions of staying in the draft. Lee will probably be evaluated by NBA coaches. He will be told what he needs to work on to become NBA ready and he will come back and get better. It also gives him a chance to evaluate how he stacks up against NBA talent. Ultimately, this is a win-win for everyone.
