Weekly Answers, Pt. 3
Check out the latest batch of weekly answers after the jump...
1) Do you think that Howland and staff see Reeves Nelson as a 5 (principally) rather than a 4? Is that why they're pursuing other power forwards, i.e. Terrence Jones and CJ Leslie among others? Or do they just need depth? - Spencer
Nelson should be a five, albeit undersized. He doesn't have the quickness of a tweener four. They're pursuing PFs because they already have Smith and they need big bodies.
2) Can you post an injury update on Reeves Nelson? Does he play this weekend? - Spencer
Still undecided.
3) Mr. Gold, in your opinion what is the strongest football conference(s) next season? I think the Big Ten and the Pac 10 will be the strongest conferences next year considering the amount of talent returning back for both leagues. Thank you in advance. - Gilligan
The Pac-10 will be improved, albeit slightly. I don't think any teams are going to take huge leaps, and I see Stanford regressing. I still say SEC then Big-10 then Pac-10 then Big-12 then ACC.
4) After this pas weekend, it's hard to believe that Bobo Morgan is anything less than a poor defender. Hopefully this changes, but do you disagree with this statement? - Spencer
Given another year, maybe he improves. But his foot speed and recognition are lacking, although I think he has good physicality. He is certainly not up to Howland's standards, though.
5) Can you give us some good news? Please? - Peter
I just saved 15 percent on my car insurance by switching to Geico. And the UCLA baseball team is pretty good. So is women's basketball. Perk up little buddy.

Baseball is off to its best start in years (ever?) at 8-0, Women's basketball is back in the top 25, Gymnatics posted its best score this past weekend since 2004 but was edged out by .025 points, Randall Carroll finished 5th in the 60m and 1st in the 200m a few weeks ago... there are many things to be happy about with UCLA sports.
Mr. Flinn,
Thanks for that info, it's nice to know that one can learn about the results of Uclan sports other than Men's BB and Football.
By the way, the Woman's BB team --- the starting five are one Senior, two Juniors, a Soph and Frosh, with a Soph coming off the bench and an injured all Pac-10 Frosh from last year ready for next year.
This isn't a one-and-done team
On Pac-10 Footballl:
I'm assuming we're talking national recognition.
I mean the Pac-10 was competitive in-conference in basketball this year but that doesn't gain respect...
USC is a mess, Oregon is even worse (a cheerleader was arrested last week for Christ sake)
Stanford and Cal lost key players.
Oregon State will be better. Washington with continue to improve but that will still make them a middle-of-the-Pac team along with UCLA and ASU.
Oregon State is my pick to be the highest ranked nationally and they'll make the low teens at best. Without a top ten team I don't think you can say we'll be the best conference.
The softball team is also ranked #5 I believe, although I would personally trade all 11 SB titles for one FB NC.
