Weekly Answers, Pt. 4

Check out the latest batch of weekly answers....

1) Do you suspect any change in Howland's recruiting philosophy. Maybe going for more east coast guys or not always going for the higher ranked guys? - BruinJigs
I don't think it's changed this year - Smith and Lamb are both highly rated - but I would be surprised if it didn't change next year, targeting more tough-minded scrappers than hotshot recruits.

2) Jon, who are a couple of guys you will especially have your eye on during spring practice? - BruinJigs
Talent-wise, I'm interested in Kevin Prince's progress, Josh Smith's integration into the offense and Rahim Moore's ability to balance big plays with steady play. Position-wise, I'm looking at defensive tackle, Tony Dye at safety and Nik Abele at offensive tackle.

3) Predictions on football captains next year? - Anonymous
Some combination of Prince, Moore, Baca, Jones and Embree.

4) The baseball team is playing well I hear, but where can I follow them? The official site is average at best. Where can I get some other recaps, previews, analysis and links to what's going on with them? - David
Blair Angulo covers the team well for ESPNLosAngeles, and Ryan Rosenblatt does a good job for Bruin Nation. I don't go to their games often, but I follow the team on the official Web site and through twitter.

5) Update on Maiava? Is he eligible? How is Eddie's ankle healing? - UCLAVES
I expect Maiava to be eligible and Neuheisel said Williams is progressing well.

Here's a question for you, Jon. Who is the moron behind Bruin Nation? Nestor makes the site unbearable! When he copies and pastes information from articles - that's when he's at his best. Once he starts offering opinions...wow...he sounds like a child...

Anonymous said:

He is what we call a bandwagon fan.

Anonymous said:

Totally agree Bruin Nation sucks big time!

The Big Woof! said:

I think most of the Bruin Nation bigwigs are lawyers.
Need I say more?

Anonymous said:

LOL @ bigwigs

I never understood why "Bruins" plural is coupled with "nation." That sounds so dumb.

Re: Bruin Nation - I agree. Those guys are killing their own site. It used to be high on My Favorites list because they did offer some links to some really interesting reading. They even occasionally provided some worthwhile information. However, I recently removed them and haven't been back primarily due their constant name-calling of UCLA players/coaches -- but also due to their whining, complaining and just being self righteous jerks.

One more vote against Bruin Nation. Agree with the comments that they get some good information from other sources.

But can't stand crybaby fans who thinks the coach who brought them 3 final fours needs a leech because of one bad season.

Its not surprising to me the Howland is having a rough time now that he is trying to coach blue chips instead of the hungry tough kids he is use to. Thought he would run into these problems sooner but I have faith he will fix it.

Agreed. Nestor is a total embarrassment to UCLA, its fans and the alumni. He can hardly put together a coherent sentence. His posts are full of absolutely terrible grammar and typos. I honestly can't believe he went to UCLA, much less that he is a competent attorney.

Mike said:

netsore and his coven of misogynists are a disgusting disgrace. And as stated above, he's illiterate. Completely incapable of composing a complete, coherent sentence unless he copy and pastes other's words. How does he post in the middle of the day? I wonder if his employer would be interested to know this? They have slammed women, other ethnicities, and our professional warfighters. They all disgust me. bn is a rogue site that deserves no more than a femto-second of time from anyone with more than 4 brain cells.

Nestor, what a jerk. I usually ignored his grammar, context errors, spelling, etc. Finally I commented that as a Bruin, and possibly some sort of journalist, he should proofread his own posts, not just rely on his computer. He had dissed Bobo when he meant to praise him, misspelled words, etc. He removed my post and invited me to go elsewhere. Oh yeah, I accused him of bullying people, so of course he attempted to bully me off the site. I know how the ladies describe a guy with his attitude but I'll not go into detail here.

And even after Howland knocks down the DePaul rumors rather definitively, Nestor's still trying to make something out of it. When others on the board disagree with Nestor's conspiracy theories, he tells people not to make personal attacks, when Nestor's the only one making personal attacks. And if the responses to his post begin to form a consensus that disagrees with him, he closes the thread.

It's ridiculous. Nestor claims to still support Howland, yet he has been using these rumors as justification to make hypothetical attacks on the coach's character. If people take Howland at his word, Nestor's telling them that they don't know what they're talking about and should go elsewhere. The BN site is now more of a cult than a fansite. Lot of very knowledgeable fans posting on other sites indicate that they've been banned on BN for nothing more than disagreeing with Nestor and taking apart his posts.

Ryan's posts about Bruin baseball have been great. But, Nestor's just a jerk and a hypocrite to boot. For example, he constantly gripes about the Bruins' supposed lack of fan support, yet he hadn't been to a Bruin game himself in 10 years (lives in DC and finally went to a Bruin game when the Eaglebank Bowl came to town). And he complains about fans sitting on their hands during the games, yet when the students rushed the court after the Washington game he attacked them too.

^ well said. It would be nice if someone posted this on BN but it would probably be deleted in a minute and then you would be banned.

Did Nestor even attend UCLA? Are you sure it wasn't UCLA extension he was attending. Someone get his last name and look him up on ucla.edu to see if he actually graduated. The guy is a serious joke. " A blog of the bruins, by the bruins, for the bruins?" He's almost as bad as those SCumbags.

A simple google search:

http://www.legistorm.com/person/Murshed_M_Zaheed/20855.html

He works for the government. Who was surprised by that?

Anonymous said:

Nester is a cry baby TOOL! And he works for the other tool Harry Reid..

If you dont agree with Nester he deletes your post and sends you a warning!! DO NOT ABUSE THE MODERATOR OR YOU WILL BE BANNED.

What a tool. BN could be a cool site for fans if he wasn't involved...

Anonymous said:

Judging by the info he's posted, I'm fairly certain that he actually attended UCLA. Even though he's an a-hole much of the time, he doesn't deserve to have his personal info posted on this site. I would hope that gets deleted by the mods here.

who he is was already public info... the rest is just an easy google search and public record

D'Jango said:

The intent of posting his info was not to let people know what his salary is or give out private, personal information, but to let them know that he works for the government. Again, that is a public site, and does not include anything that is not publicly available.

Plus, whereas most bloggers do not hide behind their handles (e.g. Spencer Hall of edsbs.com), Nestor hides behind his, like the Wizard of Oz. I guess I can understand why, since he rules like a dictator, so he doesn't want people to know who he really is. Hopefully, he will be aware that enough people know who he really is and will tone down his a-holery. I think it is fair to let people know who is "representing" us on one of the more well-known UCLA sites (even if most UCLA fans are nothing like him).

Another said:

Damn, add another negative vote to BN and Nestor. It used to be good when it was just gathering information about UCLA from around the web, but now it's terrible. If you don't agree with Nestor and voice your opinion he will tell you it is wrong and ban you, yet his opinions are often very childish and nonsensical.

Also said:

Also, there are other posters there who are fine and rep UCLA well such as Ryan. Too bad ol Nestor has the final say in what everyone's view on UCLA should be and not Ryan. That's a cool dude.

Anonymous said:

Ryan please do not post comments supporting and complimenting yourself...that's Nestor status.

Charlie Bucket said:

Nestor represents what it is to be a bruin.

Anonymous said:

Even if it's accessible via a simple search, I still don't see how his personal info has any bearing on how he conducts himself on the BN site. You actually think he's going to turn a new leaf because somebody here has outed him? If anything, he'll probably become even more belligerent and paranoid than ever, turning BN into even more of an embarrassment to Bruin fans than it already is.

And I also fail to see the connection between Nestor's a-holery and his job. A couple of the best Bruin fans I know also work as attorneys for "the government" and frankly, they passed up much more lucrative job offers to work in the public sector. And the Bruin fans I know in the private sector come in all stripes, from the a-hole Nestor types to the cool dudes that other Bruin fans represent.

he works for HARRY REID nuff said he's a tool!!!!

D'Jango said:

Fair enough.

Jon, if you would like to remove my comment which contains the link to Nestor's real name, be my guest.

I don't believe I made a connection between the fact that he works for the government and is an a-hole. Someone (Mike) had asked about what he does all day, so I was saying he works for the gov't. He would be an a-hole no matter where he works.
