Weekly Answers, Pt. 7
Here's the latest batch of weekly answers...
1) Westbrook dedicated himself 200% the summer after his frosh year and he came back a beast. Wasn't that the plan for the 08 class? Bobo slimmed down, got into better shape, and worked on his outside shot, but I didn't see too much off-season growth from Lee and Anderson. What's your take on what guys should be doing during the summer and did the 08 class do enough? - La-uklaThe plan, yes. I know Lee went nuts this summer and dedicated himself to the sport. I have no doubt that if he were surrounded by more talent, he'd be playing much better. The point guard experiment failed simply because he A) wasn't ready for the pressure defense and B) is better off the ball. My take on what guys should be doing during the summer is a bit different than a fan's perspective, simply because I know what it's like to dedicate oneself to their profession - and college basketball is a profession - for several summers in a row. People still fail to realize, though, that we're talking about sophomores. It's still a bit early to judge.
2) Do you think the coaches might consider moving Ayers to mike since he is our best LB? - AnonymousNo. Ayers is a very good OLB and they shouldn't risk moving him to the middle.
3) More playing time this year, owa or keenan? - MaltBaaKeenan.
4) What's a "Laker"? - AnonymousThe Lakers were originally in Minneapolis, Minn., land of 10,000 lakes. Hence the name...Laker. I still think they should trade with Utah, though, which moved from New Orleans. Utah Lakers, Los Angeles Jazz, just makes more sense.
5) Where will the bruins be palying while pauley is under construction? - theuclanNext year they're still in Pauley, but 2011-12 I think they might move to the Forum. Nothing is official yet.

What does LA have to do w/ Jazz? Just saying...As for Ayers moving to MLB, no way. We should expect big things out of him this year.
I don't the FForum! :(
A "Laker" is a cargo ship designed for the movement of goods on the Great Lakes. It's smaller than the cargo ships used in the ocean.
The Lakers should stay the same - they are what they are and have too many titles under that name. The jazz should give their name back to the Hornets. Jazz belongs in New Orleans. Utah Jazz is about as much a contradiction in terms as I could ever imagine.
Utah should rename itself the "Blues". Everyone could imagine it's just a whimsical change of music genre, when in reality it would be a subtle homage to the state's Blue Laws.
ahhhh BASEketball
L.A. has argueably the best studio musicians in the world. When I lived in Studio City and Sherman Oaks you could see a 'studio star' every night of the week playing the music they love...JAZZ!!
When not getting paid to play on records/CDs, movie and television scores, or in back up bands in concert, you’ll find them in a number of clubs in the East Valley, such as the world-famous Baked Potato (Universal City), the oldest jazz club in California and a Los Angeles historical music landmark, hosting these folks, as well as internationally-known jazz greats.
Then there are the entertainment clubs close-in to Wetwood and the Rose Bowl that also draw top names in jazz:
Jax Bar & Grill - Glendale
The Edison - Downtown
Grand Star Jazz Club - Downtown
2nd Street Jazz - Downtown
Catalina Bar & Grill - Hollywood
Pasadena Jazz at Paseo Colorado - Pasadena
Red White + Bluezz - Pasadena
Industry Cafe & Jazz - Culver City
Culver Club - Culver City
Babe's & Ricky's Inn - Jefferson Park/south of 10.
By the way…Brazilian singer, composer and guitarist Gilberto Gil will be bringing his unique blend of jazz and traditional rhythms to Royce Hall at UCLA on Saturday, March 20.
This is why LA is more about being the Jazz than the Lakers.
...Just sayin'
What's a Laker? Could also be (Sir)Freddie Laker
british airline entrepreneur, best known for founding Laker Airways in 1966.
THE ABOVE ANSWER IS JUST AS PERTINENT TO THIS BLOG AS ALL THE OTHER DISCUSSION SO FAR, NONE OF WHICH PERTAINS TO UCLA SPORTS!
it should be LA Lazers
Wrong. Jazz should be traded back to New Orleans and Utah should become the Hornets. What does Utah have to do with Lakes either.
ummm the salt lake
the salt lakers? =/
Ayers@ Mike would never happen. Mike at UCLA is the brains of the defense . While Akeem may be the best linebacker ,no one would ever say he is the brains of the D And I don't mean that to disparage him.
Utah is the Beehive State, too. The Jazz-Hornets swap makes perfect sense.
Hey Boston Bruin,
Nice post, great list of jazz clubs, let me add one to it:
Charlie O's - Valley Glen
