Weekly Answers, Pt. 9
Here's the last batch of weekly answers...
1) Whats up with all of this talk about tuney? wouldnt he have a scholly if he deserved one? - MaltBaaNo idea where all the talk came from. He's been on the team for months and never really made a splash.
2) Do you think that last years defensive schemes were truly what coach Bullough wanted to run, or did CRN have the a big hand in what was done on the defensive side of the ball??? - RicoBruinI'm sure there was a lot of give-and-take, but yeah, I think CB was in charge. This year, even more so, especially with the hiring of Clark Lea.
3) Do you have inside info that barr will be tried at strong safety or is it a gut feeling? - MaltbaaGut feeling. People have asked me where he should play, and that's my answer. At least immediately. Or pump him up to 265 and put him at DE. That's what I'd do.
4) What had more of a factor on drago's play this year.. his legal issues or his increased offensive responsibilities considering he is more fit as a roll player...? - MaltBaaB. No doubt, B. But, I also think he should've been pulled after some shots early in the season to set the tone, and he wasn't.
5) Why did BoBo only play a few minutes against Oregon? What are the odds on Bobo transfering? - Bruinfan05I have absolutely no clue what the Morgan deal is. Kid plays a bunch of minutes, then none. He can't go from that good to that bad so quickly. His 3-3-3-3 performance against Oregon was nothing earth-shattering. But it was serviceable. Don't get it.

What happened to Q&A part #8? Did #9 get tired of waiting? :-P
Bobo is getting cheated out of a college experience. He's worked his a** off, losing a ton of weight and improving his defense. Granted, he's not a great man-on-man stopper, but within the zone used this year he was certainly serviceable. And yet he only gets less than 5 minutes per game, if even that!
He gets to watch as Drago puts absolutely zero effort into the team, throws up wild shots and plays absolutely no defense 95% of the time, and STILL gets 35 min per game. Bobo should have gotten 10-20 minutes per game, providing size up front and giving Nelson a little rest. Drago deserved 10-15 max.
I really like the guy and I hope he sticks around, but nobody can argue if he decides to leave. He's gotten screwed by Coach Howland's inexplicable line-up decisions.
I don't understand item #1.
tuney?
scholly if he deserved one?
What you talking about Jon Gold?
Inexplicable? Here's an explanation: Bobo, although improved from last year, still wasn't a better option than the players who got minutes over him. Practices are closed to the public, so you have no idea how Bobo performs there. But judging by his minutes, probably not well. Coach Howland certainly knows his players and their abilities better than you.
If Bobo truly was the best option and displayed that in practice, I'm sure he would have played more. I trust Coach Howland, not you, to decide who deserves minutes.
Did you ever consider the possibility that Drago's defense, as awful as it was, was still better than Bobo's? Oh, and Drago has shown he can put up 20-25 pts in a game if he finds his stroke.
...or maybe you just don't know the whole story?
Nah, you're probably right.
Yeah Draovic sometimes scores 2o. but also the player he is guarding always has season highs and 20+ points. and for every shot he makes he misses 5. he should have played no more thatn 15 minutes off the bench, cuz im not sure the other players could be that much worse.
Anon:
Maybe you should share your ideas over at the Daily Bruin blog. All there will agree with you in lockstep.
everyone has that opinion of drago.. its nothing new. the fact remains he is a college student, not a professional. He didnt force howland to give him a scholly.. he is just taking advantage of the opportunity presented to him. everyone should back off of the drago bashing..
