Carlino headed to Westwood

| | Comments (11) |

Matt Carlino, a premier PG from the class of 2011, has verbally committed to UCLA, I've been told. Carlino could graduate early and enroll this season, giving the Bruins an outside shooting option they currently lack.

I'll try to get a hold of him today, but for now, here's his profile: Carlino

people are going to say that we picked up a slow footed nonathletic shooter, but I think he is a terrific player.

I'm not really sure what to expect out of this kid. From what I've read, he used to be considered one of the top prospects of 2011 according to ESPN, but now, he's ranked 60. I'm not sure if it was the moving location or the fact that he didn't improve from his freshman year. Another concern is what position he's going to play- he is 6'2, but he's known for being a scorer (especially from outside). Don't get me wrong, any help we can get is great, but I'm really just not sure how excited to get just yet.

Great news. But does anyone have a link to a profile that actually profiles him?

This might be a nice pickup...we saw last year what happens when you don't have a consistent outside shooter. Now with Lamb/Carlino we may have something for the next few years. The question I have is does this now make it Lee/Jones at PG, Lamb/Carlino at SG and Jerime potentially out of the rotation or does Jerime/Jones at PG, Lee with the better of Lamb/Carlino at SG work better?

A good pick up,but he really needs to get into the weight room immediately.

My brother, who is a rabid USC fan, told me when UCLA signed Don MacClean, that he was slow and unathletic. He is the Pac-10 all-time leading scorer. A lot of people said Larry Bird was slow and unathletic. I guess we'll find out how slow and unathletic Carlino is.

Interesting...

"Carlino, who recieved a scholarship offer from Arizona and then coach Lute Olson as a seventh grader, is supposed to be a 2011 graduate but told the Daily News that he plans to graduate early and enroll at UCLA next fall."

GREAT!!!! We got a slow skinny white 12 yr. old kid to sit on the bench. So, who's going to tuck him in at night? At least if BH dimisses him, he can go back to High School.

He had mono in the second grade and was held back a year in school as a result so the class of 2010 was supposed to be his graduating class. He is a year older than I think most people believe.
