Dalis named to NACDA Hall of Fame, Class of 2010
Former UCLA athletic director Pete Dalis was named to the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Hall of Fame today, along with 11 others in the class of 2010.

The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) has named its 12-member Hall of Fame class for 2010. The inductees will receive their awards on Wednesday, June 23 at the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Awards Luncheon, which will be held during NACDA's 45th Annual Convention at the Marriott Hotel in Anaheim, Calif.

The man that gave us Lavin and NIT first round loser Walt Hazzard. Hall of Fame material if I ever saw it.
Isn't he the one who persecuted Harrick?
What did he do to deserve it?
Among other things, he could not find a way to keep two men's sports (ie swimming and gymnatics) rich in tradition and champions (especially mens gynmastics). Instead of finding a way to keep those programs alive, growing and funded sufficiently, he took the easy (chicken?) way out and decided to bury them - cut them out, destroy them. And please don't say he had to becuase of Title IX, or whatever the number related to equal mens and womens sports. He was a terrible AD. Maybe it's the Hall of Fame for losers...
I am really surprised. Agree with the comments above. Dunno what criteria was used to determine this award cuz, ya know... I just don't see it.
While I generally agree with the comment above, I beleive you are missing the big picture -- Why in the hell do we have a HOF for Athletic Directors? I mean, c'mon now! What about a HOF for the game day ushers? Or the Manager of Concession Operations? "We are pleased to announce the induction of Mr. Jones to the NASACM HOF. The National Association of Sports Arenas Concession Managers honors Mr. Jones for his tireless work in keeping his arenas fully stocked with Beer and Dogs. He also served two terms as Executive Director of the Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Cotton Candy, where he sprearheaded the idea of the peg board to bring this treat from the concession stand into the venue itself."

I also agree 100% with the comments above. Dalis was an unmitigated disaster as an athletic director. He mishandled just about every situation that was presented to him, from the elimination of two mens sports (swimming and gymnastics) that were producing Olympic champions, to the failed "hiring" of Larry Brown, to the selection of Walt Hazzard, and to the selection of an unqualified and ill-prepared Steve Lavin as head coach to succeed Harrick. Hall of Fame? UCLA Athletics is lucky to have survived his tenure in one piece. He is a classic example of what happens when you put a career bureaucrat in a leadership role. What a joke.

this is a joke right? judging from the list, if they induct 12 guys every year and assume average tenure of an AD is 10 years and there are roughly 1200 NCAA schools, that means 1 out of every 10 AD will get elected to this so call hall of fame, i doubt any other HOF has this high rate of getting in

rejn hit the nail on the head. In addition to swimming and gymnastics, Dalis killed men's rowing in 1991. The program won the Pac-10 championships in '87, '88, & '89 beating perennial national powers Cal and UW. In 1990 they were 2nd in the Pac-10 and placed 3rd in the Collegiate championship...the best in the history of the program. Dalis killed three storied Olympic sports at UCLA. Loss of swimming weakened the women's program (men and women often practiced against each other). And, as UB asked, why do ADs need a HoF?
Compared to other AD's, Dalis was a generally poor one. But when you hold him up against J.D. Morgan and Dan Guerrero, this guy really suffers in comparison.
