Smith out for spring

UCLA wide receiver Josh Smith has a PCL tear that might require surgery, UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel said. He'll miss the remainder of spring ball, and a decision will be made soon about surgery.

"They have a decision to make about whether or not to have surgery," Neuheisel said. "He's going to be out for the spring. It's the PCL, which normally isn't surgery, it's just rehab and a brace. Fortunately we have the luxury of time."

Neuheisel said the team remains very optimistic that he'll return for fall camp in August.

"It's just unfortunate that he'll miss the better part of spring practice," Neuheisel said. "Now we've got to come to the right program to get him healthy. The MRI was conclusive yesterday, so we know more now. It's up to him to have a great academic quarter - he's got some things to accomplish there - and he has to make sure he stays into the playbook and knows exactly what he's got to do and when the leg comes around, which it will, he's ready to respond.
"Our first game is in September."

What is it with our injuries??? Is the playing surface and/or our equipment at fault? Has anyone in charge really looked into these issues?

It absolutely has to do with the turf. How many foot, ankle, and knee injuries have we had over the years with this turf??!! Everybody knows that the turf causes way more injuries than grass. Whoever had the idea to put turf in was a complete idiot!
