1) In your chat with Carlino he refers to himself as a PG…is that where Howland sees him? If so, what does that make the 2 deep at both guard positions look like (will Carlino at PG and Lamb at SG make an impact this year or are we looking at Anderson/Jones/Lee in some form at those positions)? – Mike H Class of 90
Carlino was ADAMANT that he’ll play the point, and it will be interesting to see how the guard rotation plays out. Anderson and Lee will start, with Jones and Lamb as the backups, though I could see Jones pushing for time if Anderson struggles early.

2) Coach Howland pulled a fast one with Carlino. “The new wizard in Westwood”? – youseela
The Carlino signing was an important one for more than just his potential impact next season. By getting him early, perhaps too raw to contribute now, Howland showed a bit of forward-thinking that has been lacking at times. Especially after last season, it’s important to build the team back the right way, for sustained success. That ’08 class was so damaging that one player could not have solved everything. I think Howland realizes that.

3) Does Howland intent to use Tyler Lamb at the 3 at all? What do you think? – Spencer
I could see Lamb playing a little three, but I think he is ideal at the 2. He’s just a bit undersized at the three, but with his range, I could see Howland trying to stretch the floor with a Lee-Anderson-Lamb lineup.

4) Any changes to the football road uni’s this year? – Anonymous
I think they’ll be a darker blue, but that’s the only change I’ve heard.

5) Any chance you can bring back the Q&As with specific players? These were great to get to know players: http://www.insidesocal.com/ucla/2008/11/qa-with-taylor-embree.html – TXbruinAbsolutely, and that will become a major feature once I get the Flip cam that’s on the way. I’m taking a page from Blair Angulo, who’s doing an awesome job as ESPNLA’s UCLA guy, and going to get live video interviews and a youtube channel. That, plus the new podcast, should add another element to the blog.
