Thanks for the link Jill. It's to bad the renovation does nothing for the sight lines from the 300s level. Even with the savings it sounds like there is no intention to revisit that poor decision.

that wasn't a question and answer. That was a press release by the Morgan Center still spinning furiously to defend their terrible decision making and execution on this project. Dan G. needs to spend less time campaigning for his next job with the NCAA and more time getting the Morgan Center into the 21st Century. He is becoming a visionless career bureaucrat in the mold of Pete Dallis.

I think it's official now: Everybody hates the renovation plan.

The fear of people simply not being able to get into Pauley Pavilion seems a little unfounded, however. The team doesn't draw big crowds now, so there's no reason to expect crowd sizes to grow. What seems more likely is that everybody is crammed into the upper sections and, like at Yankee Stadium, the seats closest to the action are left vacant.

And to add to my earlier comment, there's got to be a tipping point somewhere. If the university realizes that the ticket prices and required donations are resulting in an embarrassingly empty building, then prices will quickly drop.

Likewise, with the state of the secondary ticket market, tickets at any level will be plentiful. Our family, for example, has season tickets, but we also face a two-hour drive. Therefore, we probably only make it to about a third of the games. If we are somehow "priced out" of season tickets, I expect that we'll just get tickets we want via the re-sale market and probably come out out the same financially.

A couple concerns about the Pauley plan:

1) the seismic upgrade portion only brings the building to "good" level. Why not to the "excellent" level?

2) unless the Pauley floor elevation is lowered (similar to what was done at the Coliseum when the running track was removed and seats were added there), the high-rent seats will have poor slope and visibility (as was done at the Rose Bowl when the running track was removed and seats were added).

The Wear twins are out at UNC. This means that maybe those rumors that I said were unfounded may be true after all. Here is the link to the story:
