Missing out on a story
Hey guys,
Now, I come to you for help. I saw a Bruins Nation post from a UCLA grad about his father-in-law, a Japanese-American, receiving an honorary UCLA degree because his internment in the Manzanar Camp derailed his education. (Here's a link, by the way: ). Unfortunately, I saw the post after the fact.
Here's where you come in:
I live to tell that kind of story - and this Kermit Alexander story by my boy Tom Friend that absolutely floored me - but I don't always hear about it. I'm not saying flood my inbox if a former Bruin throws a touchdown or goes 2-3 with a jack. But really, I'd rather get a thousand emails for one good story than none at all.
My email is jon.gold@dailynews.com, and don't be shy. I'm genuinely upset I missed out on this story, and I don't want it to happen again.
Thanks for the help.
JG

Jon - why didn't you link to the Bruinsnation story??
Excellent story on "Dad Gets His UCLA Degree!".
Believe the writer went to the alumni programs, after ceremony, as well:
"Celebrating a Century of Coach Wooden" and
"Hoops Heroics: Ben Howland, UCLA Men’s Basketball"
Anonymous #1,
Because then people would have to be subjected to Nestor.
Very true!
Sounds like we need a Dump BruinNation website, or at least, dump Nestor.
I dumped them a couple of years ago. Any comment that was not in keeping with the webmasters was usually trashed. They sertainly didn't entertain any alternative points of view no matter what your Bruin bonafides are/were.
John--Most of your readers are unfamiliar with Kernmit Alexander. Perhaps you can tell Kermits UCLA Football story; something that wasn't done in the ESPN story. Specific connection to UCLA please!!!!
What an absolutely incredible story on Kermit Alexander, one of the best stories period that I've ever read. He is truly an amazing human being and I couldn't be happier for this former Bruin. Thanks for sharing the link, Jon.
