Getting to know…Trevor Bauer

Born (Date and location): Jan. 17, 1991 in North Hollywood
Favorite TV show: Baseball Tonight and Law & Order
What’s in my iPod: Heavy metal, pretty much all heavy metal
Dream car: Whatever gets me from A to B without breaking down
Favorite movie(s): For the Love of the Game
What I’m reading right now: Not textbooks, kind of taking a break from those
Worst habit: Probably sleeping through my alarm
On my bedroom walls/office desk you’ll find: A case of origami I’ve made, a Family Guy poster, a combat pitching poster plus a wall of fame and a wall of shame on teams I’ve been through
I’d love to trade places for a day with: Tim Lincecum
A talent I’d most like to have: I’d love to be able to play the guitar
Favorite meal: That’s a tough one…shrimp pasta
Favorite athlete to watch: Tim Lincecum
Favorite vacation: Don’t take that many, but my family and I have gone down to Carlsbad for a long time
Favorite sports team: Duke basketball
Dream date: I don’t have a dream date
My hero: Tim Lincecum
Goal for the season/year: From a team perspective, get to Omaha and win the national championship. On a personal level, I want to go out there and strike people out and be Pac-10 player of the year
Biggest rival: Personally, Devin Rodriguez from Cal; we went to high school together. For a team, either Cal State Fullerton or Stanford
Pregame ritual: Don’t really have much…before I go on the field. During the game…
Best advice I’ve received from a coach: “Be comfortable being uncomfortable” and “Opportunity is missed by most people because it comes dressed in overalls and looks like work,” by Thomas Edison.

Interesting answers, except, um, did he say Puke Basketball?

Duke basketball? Are you kidding? You’d better be. I don’t care what you do for Ucla if you give an answer like that to the press. I’ve never wanted to cuss out a fellow Bruin before, until now. No wonder you don’t have a dream date. That is just sick, and wrong.

  • spedjones

haha, what an @-hole. Duke basketball? Why not SC baseball instead? Maybe Notre Dame football? Cal water polo? Irvine volleyball? Stanford…, well, Stanford doesn’t really have anything. Maybe golf?

  • SnailOfWestwood

I honestly don’t know if I can cheer for someone whose favorite sports team is Duke basketball.

Kid obviously doesn’t have a career in public relations. Way to alienate your whole fan base.

  • 13-9

He lied about not having a dream date. It’s obviously Tim Lincecum.

  • Fan4Life

Who cares if Duke is Trevor’s favorite basketball team. If you think that makes him a bad Bruin then you’re gonna hate Arron Afflalo who really liked SC football.

Bauer finished HS early and instead of pitching for Hart his senior year, he was pitching for UCLA where he was all PX and National Frosh of the Year. Bauer probably could have been admitted to UCLA on grades and accomplishments alone. He had a 4.2 GPA and was taking classes at the local JC.

He can love Duke hoops all he wants as long as he pitches lights out for UCLA.

  • spedjones

well, then, Afflalo’s gotta go too!

  • cali

Please tell him he was joking about Duke being his favorite basketball team. That is sacrilegious!! Kick that dude off the team. I don’t care how good he is.

  • SnailOfWestwood

@Fan4Life If Arron Afflalo was asked what his favorite sports team was, there is no way in hell he would be stupid enough to say ‘SC football. I’m happy Bauer’s on our side, but jeez man, did he even THINK about that before he said it?

  • Maze

@SnailOfWestwood: Hate to say it, (and I’m true-blue, through and through), but Arron DID say that in one of his VERY early Bruin-related interviews.

On that bittersweet note, Let’s go get our First Baseball Championship! (Coach Wooden’s favorite sport)

You guys need to lighten up. While his answer doesn’t sit well with many of you, you’ve got to give him credit for speaking his mind. Trevor chose UCLA, pitches for UCLA and can deliver a championship for all of us. I could care less that he grew up as a dickie v fan. I however do wish him my best and hope he can deliver the big one for us.
