Across Town
What was already going to be a day of epic proportions in college football might have just taken Armageddon status: Multiple news outlets are reporting, including the Daily News' Scott Wolf, are reporting that USC will receive a two-year postseason ban after a four-year investigation into alleged misconduct by both basketball and football programs.
I'm also hearing a loss of a significant number of scholarships in addition to the forfeiture of games from 2004 to 2005.
Wolf reports that USC intends to appeal the ruling and reduce the penalty. That is important for recruiting purposes, particularly the bowl ban, which may cause Class of 2011 prospects to reconsider their early verbal commitments.

Suddenly all the UCLA fans who were nervous that CRN doesn't have any verbals yet can now see the strategy in waiting for the announcement so he can pluck off more talent from current SC commits.
How does the appeal process work for them jon? Are these sanctions set in stone already, and whats the possibility that these sanctions would be reduced? I would love to see usc burn!!!
make no mistake about it. it's not revenge we're after... it's a reckoning.
And So It Begins....
Hey Holliday...Well said!
Now that this will soon be out of the way, let's focus on our own football program and get really excited about it!
I clearly remember you repeatedly saying that the repercussions of the investigation wouldn't be that bad. Clearly you were wrong, but I guess my question is thus did you have ever think it would get this bad?
Is that it? They got off light. They deserve the "death penalty" (and it's not just Bush, it's lack of institutional control.) Minimum should've of been 3 year ban plus 5 scholies per year for 5 years.
This is awesome! USC can appeal all day long but the inevitable is upon us. The end of the Trojan era as we have come to know it. This is as close as it comes to getting the death penalty without actually getting one.
Sorry Trojans, move over. Your time is up. This is now our time to shine in the brand new Pac 16. GO BRUINS!!!
As for me, I've got absolutely NO PITY for those CHEATERS!!!
Kiffin and Orgeron LIED to recruits in telling them there would be no sanctions that would affect the current or future standing of the program. Expect huge backlash, stoked by Neuhiesel no dount. Neu will be reminding parents and players that they were played by Orgeron and Kiffin
WHAT DID I TELL ALL YOU TROGANS!!!! It's about F'n time. I want all those Trogans who have been coming on here talking trash for years, and mostly the last two weeks, to come back here and SUC my Bruin ....!!!!
ESPN is reporting, from 2 confirmed sources, that SUC will get a 2 Year Bowl Ban, at least forfeit the 2004 Season, and lose over 20 scholies over the next 5 years.
Though I'm as happy about this as any bruin, I would like to point out the USC was so dominant not because one guy on a team accepted a house on SD. They were so dominant because they out-recruited everyone else, especially UCLA and Duh-rel. I would much rather have UCLA take the monopoly away, rather than have the NCAA hand it to them.
Awwww... all those poor recruits who listened to Lame Kitten and actually believed him when he told them not to worry as nothing would happen as a result of the investigation that could affect them. All you 2011 recruits, lets all line up in an orderly fashion so you can jump ship safely. No pushing or shoving please.
All you 2010 signees, cry me a river boys....
They "out-recruited" because they were paying their players.
I bet Seantrel Henderson, REALLY wishes he would have waited now, instead of believing Lame.
Samohpar:
Are you blind? You sound as delusional as a Trogan right now. The NCAA and I can ASSURE you this wasn't just about a player with a free house in SD. WAKE UP!!!!
Imagine how much worse it would have been if Pete Carroll, Reggie Bush, and Joe McKnight had ever testified.

It's about time their misdeeds caught up with them and who ever said that Trojans don't break!!

Okay, if this turns out to be accurate, I'm pretty satisfied. As usual, in cases like these, I'm unhappy the people who are actually responsible for this are beyond the reach of the NCAA or the law. That probably should be changed. It makes Carroll's move to Seattle look ever more venal and self-serving. It seems to me that the university should have recourse to pursue money damages.

bears repeating, I guess.
So when is Mike G. going to resign? Or is he going to deny everything and act like they got slammed by the NCAA for no reason. Guess it's time to get the moving boxes out!!!
You guys do understand that none of this makes UCLA a better team than they already aren't. Neuhiesal is still 10-14 (career) at UCLA with his signature win being the Eaglebank.com Bowl vs. Temple. USC still spanked UCLA 28-7 the last 2 seasons consecutively, and 10 of the last 11. Would you not agree.
I absolutely HATE the trogans and I feel the university should be punished for it's misdeeds but... how is this fair to the kids that are current players and who had nothing to do with this? (not saying other shenanigans weren't going on since this but nothing has come out).
I truly feel that the Bruins would have gone back to owning the trogans on the field if not this year then the next for sure, and now there will be an excuse when it happens.
A 2 year bowl ban and scholarship reductions will not really hurt the trogans (in my opinion) because the players who TRULY wanted to go to $c because it was their "dream school" will still go regardless. It's not like they received a TV ban so the trogan players will still be in the spotlight and will still be able to show their skills on the National stage.
It will be interesting to see which verbal commits stick with $c.
Sad that the true miscreants behind this whole problem are long gone and are living fat on the big money in the pros (unless Garrett knew something).
I am sorry for the trogan players who did nothing wrong (except Barkley, I can't stand to look at that guy) and for the trogan fans who truly believe in their team (not the bandwagon jumpers).
GO BRUINS!...UCLA FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!
@devildoc
You do understand that this did have some effect on the quality of players your team was able to recruit, right? I mean, it's like saying that Barry Bonds has been the most dominant hitter in all of MLB over the past two decades because he owns the record for single season homeruns (73) and career homeruns (762). Let's completely overlook any unfair advantages he might have had. Would you not agree?
devildoc,
UCLA is a better team than sc. WE DON'T CHEAT!
RE: Devildoc
hahahahahahahaha!
I think I went to summer camp with @devildoc. That's too unique a name to be a coincidence.
I'm sure you're upset, buddy. But you should be upset with USC's multiple violations throughout the past decade. Worry about cleaning up your own house first before you start disparaging the Bruins. It's bad form.
The other big news of the day --- a potential 16 team Pac 10 will do more in the long run in diluting So. Cal's recent dominance.
High schoolers from Big-12 country will feel more comfortable to go west since they'll still be in the same conference.
A robust Pac-16 TV deal will have a lot to do with driving that, allowing the kids' family to see them play via cable.
Nebraska and Mizzou has to make a decision by end of day tomorrow, which in the end may see the Big-12 deflate to the Big 7!
Although the investigation certainly uncovered a lot of bad things, USC didn't cooperate with the investigation and stonewalled the NCAA for years. Fortunately for USC, the real bad stuff wasn't uncovered. I believe that the NCAA knew that there was a lot more than they could find and because the school hadn't cooperated, they got the second year when most experts figured they would get one year like they got in '82. Now the real issue becomes if somehow the NCAA does find out how bad those things are, remember they are on probation, the consequences of yet another action by the NCAA could be catastrophic.
Where's our hated trojan alum friend LawyerJack?
This isn't gonna change anything for the guys they already have committed. They will either be redshirt freshmen or sophomores once the ban is lifted, so I dont think they'll care. Maybe mamba was the highest impact true freshman but I dont think missing one bowl game is gonna make him de-commit if he already wanted to play there. Seantrell Henderson may want to leave if he is still able to play somewhere else because its costing him two bowl games. Thats still a longshot for us. If anything, we could get whoever the last 5 guys they were gonna take are, because they wont have the scholarships.
The current players at SC knew what they were getting into. No one forced them to sign with SC. If they didn't know they were taking a risk that SC was going to get punished by the NCAA then they only have themselves or their advisors to blame. The investigations has been going on for 4 years.
I love how when you go to Scott Wolf's page, it is as quiet as if someone or something has died. Perhaps something did die today. Perhaps the idea that sc earned their wins fair and square died in the minds of even the most bamboozled and ignorant of sc fans.
I remember sc fans clearly telling me and other Bruins fans that we were "pathetic" for even thinking that the NCAA would drop any serious sanctions on the Trogans. Looks who's laughing now, SUCkas! :D
sc will always be a second rate school and they will always have to rely on dishonesty and cheating to feel important.
ding dong the witch is dead...
cheaters never prosper...petey was a cheater, i regret he wasnt their to take his punishment.
hopefully garret is fired.
"They were so dominant because they out-recruited everyone else"
And they out-recruited everyone else because they out-bid everyone else.
The appeals process will take time and actually causes more damage to the program. Many recruits will not overlook the impending penalties just because SUC is appealing them. SUC will lose a lot of top flight potential recruits, no doubt. Furthermore, given all that came out in the NCAA report, the penalties appear in line with the violations and likely will not be reduced, especially the 2 year bowl ban. Therefore, it is best for SUC to just accept the penalties and start the clock now, versus dragging out the implementation of the sanctions until after the appeal. But as we all know, the SUC administration is arrogant and the alumni have expressed considerable self-riteous indignation. Expect a long drawn out appeals process, and more self inflicted wounds.

We never went to summer camp together, infact I have never been to a summer camp in my life. DevilDoc is a title i earned as a United States Navy Hospital Corpsman who was also a Fleet Marine Force Warfarae Specialist, more specificaly a Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman - A Special operations Combat Medic. It's unique to us FMF Corpsman
Yeah, as a USC fan i am upset to see that Reggie Bush really screwed up the whole University and football program because of his and his parents selflishness and greed, and nothing is going to happen to him.
