Brock Berglund, Ctd.
Between UCLA's need at QB and their interest in you, are you surprised how fast things moved with them?
"I think things are moving a little faster as a process as a whole. The UCLA thing has really lighted it up. That's a great situation there. As a whole, I was looking to make my commitment in September probably, but now it's looking like July. I was going to take a trip to Boise State a couple weeks ago, but they got a commitment. When you start losing opportunities because you're taking too much time, I didn't want to get involved in that."
As a 17-year-old, is it difficult knowing your future in some way depends on other kids your age? Is that overwhelming?
"It's really a process. You look at everything, and the key is just to stay prepared. You have to know what other guys are doing. You have to know what you're looking for. No one offers one QB anymore. Some people have three, some have five. Usually it's the same three to five throughout the country. There are the same guys on every board, you have to see who else is interested in."
Talk about your relationship with Coach Neuheisel, and if his time in Colorado affects your relationship...
"Coach Neuheisel is a great guy. I hung out with him at the camp for about an hour, working with him. I was younger (when he was at Colorado) and not in the process that I am now. It's different when he's in LA - yeah, I look back at him a little bit and we can relate a little better, about where his kids went to school. There's an easier way to relate, but he still went to UCLA, and it's his place, and he loves it. We can relate on a lot of different levels."
Were you recruited by USC?
"It was a while back, two months ago, but I talked to a defensive line coach, a brief kind of deal, and they thought they were gonna get Wittek and another guy, and I don't think anyone there expected to get two in a week. I'm not sure what the situation looks like with guys staying. As far as I know, USC is out of the mix for me."
Any thoughts on the sanctions?
"I'm not sure how much it'll have an impact on me. It's a close LA school, and it makes it harder for them to do things - it's probably worse for Matt Barkley, who as a sophomore and junior will have to deal with not being in a bowl. But it's not as big a deal for a recruit like Wittek. I don't know how much it will really affect their recruiting. It's USC, a lot of guys still want to go there."
What more can UCLA do over the next month or so to secure your commitment?
"I don't think there's anything more from UCLA. I love it. I've been there three, four times. It's a great place. I'm just making sure there's not a place I'd rather be. Once I make my decision, I'm not going to field calls; I'm going to know it's where I want to be. I want to factor in everything that can happen. In the next month, I have a couple more visits, I'll look at a couple more things. But UCLA is definitely at the top of the list."

With only 15 schollies, SUC has to kick one of their QB's to the curb. Kessler would go to Wash if it was him. Wittek we would have a shot at. I would guess they would try and keep Wittek as they went after him the hardest. Hopefully they both bolt.
sounds like he's our guy....wonder if that's good?
The fact that he got bumbed by Boise State makes you wonder. I think Gretzky is ours if we want him. Rumors say he was better than Montana, but those are rumors. What about CRN's kid? Would we bring in 3 since Jerry Nue should not count as a schollie.
They would keep wittek for two reasons (among others no doubt):
1. he comes from Mater Dei which is a huge pipeline for them that they can not afford to piss off, expecially in the coming lean years.
2. I believe they wanted him more for the players that they believed would come with him, Mamba for instance.
Mamba's rumored to be upset with SC's recruitment of another qb (and thus, so must be Wittek). Both will bolt.
This kid seems like he's got a good head on his shoulders and seems to have some talent. Reminds me of a kid from a few years back by the name of Neuheisel. Hope we get him.
"What about CRN's kid? Would we bring in 3 since Jerry Nue should not count as a schollie."
Jerry WOULD count as a schollie... faculty members kids at UCLA DO NOT go to school for free.
Apparently, Brandin Cooks a WR out of Stockton just gave a verbal to the Bruins. 5'11" and runs a 4.4.
What's all this noise about another 3 Star QB for UCLA?
Is it the intent for the Bruins to eternally crank out 7-6 seasons? There hasn't been a premium QB here since 1998...UCLA is not a 3 Star Hotel Flophouse
When did kids start counting as a schollie? When I was there in the early 90's my buddy played baseball and his dad was a coach and he went for free.
Can his kid walk on?
Borglund will be a very good D1 QB. Great technique, always balanced, good footwork, accurate arm, and very smart. He will devlop his arm strength with maturity. A terrific get by the Bruins.
We love to hate our colleagues. When coach preached ethical behavior we decided to spew venom. We love to hate our rivals but take a hard look we have a cheater as our football coach who was sanctioned by the NCAA. Do not think for a minute that thinks like this are isolated. imagine what has gone on a Pauley. We are a classless university who has hid behinds the ethics of a goofy man with big ears from an era long ago. We might feel vindicated today but my fellow bruins we might also face judgment day in the near future.
Today more than ever I feel embarrassed to have graduated from a classless school with such low class students, alumni and administration.
And I quote: "Do not think for a minute that thinks like this are isolated. imagine what has gone on a Pauley." Little Jeffy must have taken his english classes at U$C.
"Bruin Jeffy" must be the one Jon was threatening to ban after Coach Wooden passed through transition...
Mario DiLeo displays his intellect(or lack thereof) yet again, he does not even know who has a handle and so does not. I'll state it again, what's even more sad then sanctions is a program that has to beg like dogs for the misfortune of others to even inch towards their own credibility. UCLA will always be a second class citizen in LA and abroad. USC casts a long shadow and even Dan Guerrero's huge azz is covered under it.
sadly, yes.
Bruin Jeffy wipes from back to front, don't you, poopyballs?
