Stop pulling this crap

Guys,

This is a stern warning. Stop posting comments under other poster's handles. I am sick and tired of the "fake" UBs and the fake "spedjones." You're not fooling anyone. I can see every post you've ever posted under an IP address. Your post will be deleted and you will be banned, permanently.

fake spedjoneses...? I love it! Sanction On!

thank you jon. why not just permanently ban those damn trolls right now? you know warnings never do anything to stop trolls. they only get more off on it.

Jon,

Why not remove the ability to post anonymously and moderate all posts by first time individuals. The trusted posts get through and it discourages the others without adding much workload.

Disqus offers a great threaded commenting system that could likely be integrated into Movable Type.

For some reason I an getting an error message and not able to log into any of my existing services to post this.

Geez, I figured I was just helping out spedjones and UCLA ROB. They put in so many hours trolling on Inside USC that I figured I'd cover for them here.

Sped, you got both sites covered on your own good buddy?

Jon,

It's an interesting comment about an IP address. If you got your information from your I.T. group then your I.T. group needs to sharpen their skills.

An IP address does not pinpoint a single user. It's just not a good method to determine anyone. Everyone at a single organization will appear to come from a single IP address. If everyone at the Daily News posted in this comment area they would all look like the same IP address.

In fact, because of the shortage of IP addresses, many ISPs now use NAT addressing which makes each and every person from that ISP look like they're the same person. (An ISP is the Internet Service Provider such as Verizon, Comcast, etc.)

While I understand your frustration, your comment about the IP address is using a very broad brush indeed.

What Anon above said is true to a degree. With IP lookups (like dsnstuff.com), you can see if it's residential or business, and determine from there.

Just becareful of blocking the UCLA IP address as people in dorms might share IPs. :)

Anything you can do to move us in that direction would be appreciated. The trolls have bruin nation and the trojan mosh pit.

I would agree with Rick in not allowing anonymous posting. I also think moderating 1st time posters would help but that would be pretty time consuming.

Jon, although you're probably tired of being compared to him, Dohn had the same problem at various times when running this blog. Disallowing anonymous comments, at least temporarily, seemed to help. And if you do decide to reinstate the anonymous comments, you don't necessarily have to make a big announcement.

I also think that those of us who do appreciate this blog and the opportunity it provides us to comment on current storylines should NOT reply to the trolls. I know it's hard to ignore when smart a**es think they need to dredge up crap about Coach Wooden the day after he passes away, or whatever other nonsense they spew in their attempts at getting attention, but that's what we're giving them in responding to their BS. Don't feed the trolls, and they'll eventually go somewhere else in search of attention.

Go Bruins.

PowderKeg is right. ending Anonymous comments cleans up a lot of the junk. People who want to make those type of posts are generally too lazy to sign up for a new commenting account.

You tell them, Jon! There is NO SUBSTITUTE for the real UB! :)

Not even if we let the substitute's family live in a nice San Diego home rent-free? I'm first in to contribute.

totally unrelated to this topic but spurred on by PKBlue's last post, has anyone seen the "Do Not Feed the Bums" stickers in OB SD? Classic.

I have a work computer, a laptop, a desktop, and a school computer I use when I teach...not to mention my wife's computers...yet I always sign in under the same name. How could they NOT be different IP addresses?

Could I borrow Mr. Gold to post the same warning on the SC blog, except he'd have to change it from ceasing the use of others' monikors to stop using inane, immature, ignoble, illiterate, imbecelic, and imitative diatribe.

I think that about covers it.

@Lawyer John

So you are asking all the SUC fans to stop posting on the $C blog?! Jeez, I've been hoping for that for so long now... heh. No amount of your pseudo-intellectual alliteration will ever change the fact that $C fans can be described with just one verb: "SUCK".
