Weekly Q&A

| | Comments (34) |

Hey guys,

Fire away with questions for this week's Q&A. Please don't post new questions on the answers section, because I don't always check the comments. Save them for next week.

I'll finish off last week's leftover questions shortly...

Thanks
Jon

What's the deal with SC still piling up football recruits, despite impending sanctions, while UCLA keeps losing out?

sandiegobruinfan Author Profile Page said:

Jon, is there any way you could post a list of the recent UCLA 1 day FB recruit camp attendees and who was offered as well anyone who stood out?

Your predictions for the UCLA-CSUF Super Regional? Will you make the trip to Omaha if the Bruins make it to the CWS?

What is your take on the potential expansion of The Pac that might include the absorption of the entire Big 12 South? Has RN voiced any thoughts?

Thanks as always.

What is your opinion on Pac-16? Personally, I think it would be exciting. I hate to lose the Arizona schools to the Pac-16 east, but for the overall conference, it would really energize competition. Also don't want Baylor on a technicality (or political maneuvering) over Colorado.

Not a knock, but out of curiosity, why is the Inside UCLA blog continually hosted by not-UCLA-fans whereas the Inside USC site is hosted by a pro-USC guy?

Hi Jon,

With the USC announcement coming shortly, everyone is interested how it will affect the football program. However, I am also curious how this will affect the other athletic teams of USC (I believe that the entire athletic department is under investigation). Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Would you consider to change the blog name to Inside UCLA Football and Basketball as in the past many of your readers get bend of out shape when you started posting other UCLA's sports?

Is Smith going to start from day one? Also do we have an improved shot blocking presence that we lacked last year?

Who do you expect to commit to UCLA football in the coming year? Thanks!

Have you heard if any of our 2010 football commits are doubtful/unlikely to qualify for fall?

Why don't college basketball teams go 2 for 1 more often? Is one quality possession really better than two (possibly) mediocre possessions? You would think that more skilled college teams could pull this off like they do in the NBA.

The long-standing rule is "no cheering in the press box." So how is it that radio personality Vic the Brick Jacobs is allowed to attend NBA playoffs press conferences decked out in full Lakers regalia?

1) Do you think Masoli is really "kicked off" the team, or will Kelly keep him in the back pocket just in case the Ducks struggle (See Blount, LaGarrette)?
2) Rank the following road trips: Austin, Norman, Stillwater, College Station, Lubbock, Boulder. I say Austin, Boulder, Norman, Stillwater, College Station, Lubbock.
3) It took the LA Times three days after Wooden's death to come up with an article attacking him, rehashing the Sam Gilbert insinuations. Appropriate timing?

What you think about my prediction about the Broncos drafting Tebow? And if you want more info call 555- I know my sh!t;)
And what Sex and the City character are you sorry wrong place really what the hell is going on with UCLA QB recruiting; overall it's good but getting a competent QB is looking difficult?

Are the any offers for 2011 point guard?
Does Howland not like what is available?

I (apparently mistakenly) thought the NCAA/MLB rule was that, if a player didn't sign when drafted out of HS, and chose to play college ball, that he couldn't be drafted until after his junior year. Yet, I see 4 Bruin sophs got drafted. Were all of them redshirts, and therefore somehow eligible to be drafted? What exactly is the rule?

Any knowledge of USC commits that might waver now that the 2 year post-season ban is in place?

Know it all said:

I'll take the liberty of answering the question about college teams not going 2-for-1 more often. Actually, let me answer with a question: When? The only time it makes sense to go 2-for-1 is when the clock is winding down, like the end of a quarter or a half (except, of course, at the end of games). So pro basketball has essentially 3 opportunities per game, compared to just 1 per game in college. I think the shot clock plays a role, two: 24 seconds vs 35 seconds. You have more time to work with in college, and consequently need to plan on it earlier.

Now that the hammer has fallen, do you think Pete Carroll's reputation will be tarnished anywhere near the level Neuheisel's was? Would Neuheisel still have the "cheater" label if he had skipped town at his previous gigs before infractions were reported?

It appears Oregon is running a loose program. Reminds me of Miami during their national championship years. Are these matters of concern to the NCAA/PAC 10 or are these infractions policed by the Oregon AD/football team?

I see a bunch of baseball guys went in the draft but not the only two players I had heard of before the draft (Bauer & Cole)... How long can we can we expect these guys to be around in Westwood?

What up Jon, hope all is well. Question. When would the nebraska and colorado expansions actually take place? would they join the conference this upcoming season, keep their schedules and slowly incorporate pac-ten/big-ten teams into their schedules a few years from now, or join the conference in a couple of years and the reschedule. thanKs???

Hi Jon, I wanted to let you know how much I like the interview you did in regards to scouting the other day.More of that please!!! Do you know whatever happened to our early commit Kendall Williams.
Where did he end up going and why did we cxl his offer?

You said that Lee's shot has improved this offseason.
Is he focused on mid range or from Deep?
Can you let us know what other players are putting in the most off-season work and what types of development you have noticed from those players?
Has Honeycutt started lifting yet?

will it be possible to purchase a copy of ncaa infractions report regarding USC? will it be available online?

Jon,
nice get on AD DG just now. not as much a question, but more of a suggestion (on top of your busy sked covering football, basketball and other DN assigments)

I'd love to hear from coaches from other sports of what an expanded Pac-10 means for them.

With the 75 total scholarships limit imposed by the NCAA for 2011 how many recruits can USC sign for 2010 to stay under the 75 scholarships cap in 2011? Assuming that no players that still have eligibility for 2011 will transfer, quit or "retired".

Assuming conference expansion and new TV deals generate more revenue for UCLA, is UCLA considering fielding teams in more sports?

IF Texas joins the Pac16 or SouthwestPacific16 or the PacSouthwest16 or whatever...does that mean the original Pac10 schools then have to start using Texas textbooks? Because those books are whack.

How much contact are the FB coaches allowed to have w/ players during offseason workouts? I know they physically can't be there, but can they get film of the sessions and break it down with the players afterward?
