Weekly Q&A
Hey guys,
Fire away with questions for this week's Q&A. Please don't post new questions on the answers section, because I don't always check the comments. Save them for next week.
I have a ton of questions to pore over, so this will be a pretty loaded Weekly Answers...
Thanks
Jon

Will vuvuzelas be allowed at the rose bowl?
Do you have someone to fill in for you when you're gone?
Hundley - a bruin or not?
Jon, with the recent releasement of seantrel henderson from his loi with no restrictions, do you think coach neuhiesel is going after him considering considering he could start immediately with x-man taking off on his mission. He would be an awesome player for are o-line!!!
Have you seen any of the summer basketball workouts? If so, do you have any observations?
Scot Wolf recently posted a fairly extensive list of the football players, by position, to whom USC has made an offer for 2011; is there - or can there you create - a similar list of prospects to whom UCLA has extended an offer?
What do you think would be the optimal number of OL recruits to bring in this year? DT?
I can't see Barr on defense, barring injury on defense UCLA needs his offensive skill sets; TE or receiver I think will exploit his talent. Update Darius Bell and Taniela Maka?
Does the athletic department have any plans to commemorate Coach Wooden during the upcoming seasons for all the various sports, especially basketball? Special armbands/insignias on the uniforms, perhaps?
Still wondering how Howland blew out his Achilles. Tough injury, frequently seen in middle-aged guys trying to play hoops. Will undoubtedly restrict his ability to demonstrate things in practices, e. g., defensive stances, setting picks, footwork.
how hard is it to learn the offensive or defensive playbook at the collegiate level? is it tougher than learning freshman calculus?
why don't more former players of Wooden dispel the Gilbert accusations? Or is it because they can't? Why doesn't Walton call out Wetzel for fabricating quotes that say Walton took so many benefits? Why allow Jay Bilas to go unscathed? Why won't former players defend Wooden's reputation?
USC just landed a commitment from a 4*(rivals) OLB named Kent turene. Was the hiring of Kiffin and Orgeron the worst thing to happen to Neuheisal in regards to recruiting? they are cleaning up the SOCAL and getting out of state studs despite the sanctions and we're pulling in 2-3 star players.
Jon, have you seen any of the pickup games at Pauley Pavilion? If so, what are your impressions of the team?
Pat
Why won't the $UC trolls cease their pathetic attempts to discredit the universally recoginzed and revered reputation of the world's greatest coach?? Please tell them to go back to kissing the collective a$$es of their Trogan heroes: Mike Garrett, Pete Carroll, O.J. Simpson, O.J. Mayo, Mark Sanchez, Joe McKnight, Brian Cushing, Ray Maualuga, and the long list of other $UC identities who have enjoyed a free and undisciplined ride at the world's most tarnished university.
Hey RainMan...do you want Jon to wash your dishes and take out your trash too? Look for yourself. It's not that difficult. Go here "http://ucla.scout.com/a.z?s=12&p=9&c=4&yr=2011" for the recruit list. You can click on the headings to sort.
Was the UCLA coaching staff heartbroken that Milton Knox decided to transfer? I thought Knox played well in limited minutes, but he was obviously buried in the depth chart. What were his shortcomings as a player? Thanks!
I realize that this question will differ with almost every recruit, every HS, and every college, but I have a question about early enrollment. I know that USC will focus on trying to recruiting football players that will enroll in January 2011, so they will count towards the 2010 total. How easy is it for a football player to enroll a semester early? I graduated from a LAUSD HS, so I know that students need four years of English to graduate from a LAUSD HS. How does a recruit get by this? Is said recruit allowed to count a semester of English (or other subject) towards his HS total? Does said athlete have to have a certain amount of core units completed by January? Again, I realize that cases will differ based on what school a football player graduates from and what college he plans on enrolling in, so if you need to answer using UCLA as an example, or can answer in general terms, it doesn't matter to me. Thanks!
Update on football josh smith?
Thoughts about the Wear twins and their impact next year if Lee and/or Honeycutt stay and with Nelson at power forward?
Will Nelson have the shoting ability to make a good impact at power forward?
Do you honestly think that we'll be a top 15 contender in football in 3 years if we keep going at the pace we're going with Neuheisel and Chow?
Seeing what you did of Brian Price, do you think he is the caliber of player to be a top 10 dt in the NFL?
Do you think the Jaguars utilize Marcedes Lewis as well as they should?
Who have been your 3 favorite UCLA players (football or basketball) that you've had the chance to interview/spend time?
Hey Anon 6:24 - Thanks for the info. Keep working on those manners!
what's the latest on Paul R., Shaq R. and Josh Shirley?
are they all going to try to return to UCLA? or just two or one of them? and if so where are they going to go? does this cost them the redshirt year?
if not, where else are they looking at?
where did Moutra go?
Have you heard anything about Coach Howland's success (lack of??) in terms of point guard recruiting? Have you heard who are the targets and their chances of coming to UCLA? Any names you can share with us? Thanks Jon
Do you have any idea as to the number of Letters of Apology AD Mike Garrett is sending out?
Byron Moore was an early commit to UCLA and seemed like a good fit for UCLA. He later decommitted and signed with USC. After redshirting last year, he has moved on to a JC in hopes of playing JC ball next season and then transferring with an AA to any school in the region. Do you think that there is any chance UCLA would be interested in him again?
What in the world is going on with Hundley?! All of the talk has been that he is pretty much narrowed down to UCLA, Oregon and Washington with UCLA probably being in the lead for his services. When is he going to commit and have you ever tried to get him on the horn?
Who is the Leroy Brown of the football team? Or does this team have one?
Okay Jon, how many silents are we currently sitting on???
Any info on Bruin baseball draftees signing pro contracts?
Do you think Neuheisel now regrets not redshirting Brehaut last year? It seems the recruitment of D. Bell is geared toward separating Brehaut and Prince by one years eligibility.
hi jon, are you surprised there hasn't been more criticism in the national media regarding SC's response to NCAA? i think they've got every right to, and should, appeal but their attitude is amazingly tone deaf, i mean, if they're trying to piss off the NCAA they couldn't be ding o a better job! also, what do you see will be the cumulative impact of sanctions on SC? glaze into your crystal ball and give your best assessment of SC in say four years, thanks
For the Pac-12 championship game, wouldn't Las Vegas be an attractive option? No distinct home-field advantage, geographically centered, resources to make for an entertaining fan weekend...
Who do you think will be the best player on the basketball team this year, and who do you think is the most likely to leave early for the nba?
If everyone stays after this year, and we have 1 basketball scholarship, which recruit/position are we most in need of?
