Weekly Answers, Pt. 5

Check out the latest batch of weekly answers…

1) Jon, based on what you know now, please give us a prediction for the final score between UCLA and USC on the football field later this year. Who wins? I know it’s way early, but please use your crystal ball! Thank you. – Jimmy The GreekUSC 24, UCLA 19

2) Jon, why is our football recruiting going so slowly?…AND BADLY TOO…we loose potential recruits to the law and then loose our only 4-star recruit to Florida possibly…WTF???? – BruincheerleaderCheck to see UCLA’s verbal commits as of Aug. 4, 2009, and then look at the final class. Come and see me Feb. 4.

3) When Colorado officially joins the conference then known as the Pac-12, Neuheisel will have been the head coach of three different teams in the conference. Has any other person been the head coach of three different teams in the conference? Same question re any other major conference. – junglelandThat’s a fantastic question, and I spent 20 minutes googling every which way to find the answer and could not. If any readers out there can think of any, let me (and jungleland) know. Great question.

4) I have heard from more than one player that they do not trust CRN because he says one thing to one player and another to another. At least two of the players have said he talks a big game when he recruits you and when you get there for more than a year ,any bond that used to exist is completely gone. Have you been able to get this sense from the players or are they too cautious to speak about it for fear of retaliation? – AnonymousEvery coach promises every player the entire world. They all shadow it in “You can come in here and compete for a starting job,” but between the adulation and worship, these 16-17 year olds are made to think the coach cares more about them than their own children. I have no doubt that UCLA is the same as everywhere else. Just the way it is.

5) What’s the starting lineup look like right now on both sides of the ball? – AnonymousThe same as at the end of spring practice, though Justin Edison is listed at starting defensive tackle. We’ll know more in about three weeks.

What an irresponsible question in regards to CRN and his untrustworthiness.

There is nothing to substantiate the poster’s (troll’s) claims other than his “hearing from more than one player…”

I am even more surprised and disappointed in Jon’s “they are all crooked” answer.

Jon, do you have evidence that CRN is jerking players around?

I have only heard good things about Coach Rick. I’ve heard from more than one player that he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread…

    Regarding question #2:

    It’s “lose”, not “loose”.
Any ucla football fan should be familiar with the concept.

I don’t think there is a coach out there telling recruits “we plan to redshirt you as a freshman, put you on special teams for the next two years, and then let you compete for the back-up weakside linebacker spot as a junior and senior.” Please. Everybody gets a shot to show what they can do once they get to camp. Those who do not have successful careers will complain. I don’t think that is a UCLA issue.

@Anon, “I have heard from more than one player that they do not trust CRN because he says one thing to one player and another to another. At least two of the players have said he talks a big game when he recruits you and when you get there for more than a year ,any bond that used to exist is completely gone. As Jon said, every coach truly tells players things that do not end up coming to fruition. I do not think the coaches are purposely lying to the players (other than Lame), they are telling them what the believe to be true and things don’t always work out how they both wish.

Every school has players who become disgruntled for one reason or another, hell Washington has had 20 scholarship players leave the program in the last 2 years for one reason or another, it is not unique to UCLA.

CRN is a parent to 80-85 young men that he has to make happy all the time…it is not going to happen.

    GO BRUINS!!!

Similar concept from a different perspective

“I have heard from more than one coach that they do not trust some players because they say one thing to one coach and another to another. At least two coaches have said players talk a big game when they are recruited and when they get there they can’t cut it, and any bond that used to exist is completely gone. Have you been able to get this sense from the coaches or are they too cautious to speak about it for fear of challenging prima donas who’ll completely quit?”

Everyday of the week someone says something and as the situation evolves things change.

Why would the promises and realities of individuals in big time college football be any different from those between yourself and the recent comments by your significant other?

Dude, wake up and smell the reality!!!

  • bibs

Coaches and players tell each other what they know the other wants to hear. There is a wide gap between the truth and reality. Listen to your kids when they describe a situation where they have done something wrong and tell you what happened.

It’s amazing how many people Anonymous knows…

But really, with a loaded question like that, you should work for Fox News.

“Have you been able to get this sense from the players or are they too cautious to speak about it for fear of retaliation?”

Amazing spin work, my friend. That’s going right up there with the most recent Fox News classic: “50% of Americans disapprove of Obama’s Presidency so far. How do you feel about Obama’s Presidency?”

“Bobby Bowden coached Clemson, Florida St. and Auburn.”

    Funny…

Tommy Bowden coached Clemson and Terry Bowden coached Auburn.

    Jon,

You need to do edit these questions or not post them. Why include the content of bruincheerleader’s “WTF” and “So badly”. Why even post the anon question? Are you really that hard up?

    How old are you?

Very disappointed, you can do better.
