Post-Practice Update
* LIveliest practice I've seen in a while, and that's probably a reflection of the excitement for tomorrow's scrimmage.
* Not much to update on Kevin Prince; if everything goes as planned, he'll be back Monday.
* Richard Brehaut, however, is getting better and better. The physical tools are there - he had one phenomenal pass to Josh Smith that slipped three defenders, and I actually thought was intercepted - and once he learns to keep his composure in the pocket, he'll be a good college quarterback.
* Damien Holmes is getting more and more comfortable in that starting role, and his speed will be crucial, especially in the run game. He's quicker off the ball than Korey Bosworth was, and while Datone Jones won't be forgotten, Holmes should be reliable. His handling of pulling linemen is very good.
* When I look at running backs, I look at two things: how fast they hit the hole, and how quickly they can change direction out of a hole. Things most so fast in football that a lane is only open for a fraction of a second, so a guy has to spot it and take advantage. All that build up for this: Anthony Barr is special. He has some drop issues to work on, and he's still pretty raw, but for a guy his size, he changes directions extremely well. He had a cut today that was just spectacular.

Brehaut and Prince are both sophomores. Prince, the current starter, won't be leaving early. That means Brehaut will only place if Prince gets hurt or loses his starting job. Either scenario will mean big trouble for UCLA.
Ya, sure, in your dreams!
No, morons, Hundley will be the starter in two years. Prince will be 2nd string. Who is Brehaut?
VB, who is Brehaut? I'm glad you asked, moron.
Brehaut is a QB from Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga. In high school his number were superior to Barkley's playing at the same level of competition in a conference that included the #1 team in the state Corona Centenial, and Los Osos is in a league that has produced many Div. 1 players such playing all over the Pac-10.
Brehaut passed for same yardage as Barkely but Brehaut only had 4 interceptions in his senior year compared to 18 for Barkley, and he rushed for about 600 yards compared to -40 for barkley.
Brehaut is ready to be the QB if he's needed, FACT.
i think brehaut should start since prince has had no practice. prince has not even proven he's worthy to be the starter. he's always injured
I admire all the work that Prince has done and his effort. But his constant injuries... he missed his senior year of high school football. he was a redshirt and also injured his first year at ucla. he missed a lot of games in the year that he did play. and now he's injured again. we can't keep waiting forever for him. the team needs consistency. in order to become a better QB, you need practice and game time. both of which he's missed a lot of. sure, you can watch as much film as you like but if you aren't used to applying it in a fast real-world situation, it's not much help. if he gets hurt in the early games this season, it's time to move forward. other programs with younger QBs have done more. If Prince gets hurt, it's time to see if Brehaut can stay in there.
