Shaquille Richardson reportedly heading to Arizona

| | Comments (12) |

Former UCLA recruit Shaquille Richardson will play for the Arizona Wildcats, the Arizona Daily Star is reporting. Richardson was one of three - along with recent Washington signee Josh Shirley and Paul Richardson - who was arrested in late-June on suspicion of felony threat (though the charges have been lessened and are still pending). The trio was denied admissions and allowed to open up their recruitment, and now it appears Paul Richardson is the only one without a home.

Shaq Richardson, Scout.com's No. 27 cornerback out of Los Alamitos, would've joined a talented young defensive backfield, but probably would have redshirted. With a logjam at cornerback, he might not have seen time for a while.

I'm not going to question Coach Neuheisel's punishment, but the fact that these kids can transfer within the conference with no penalty is crappy. Also with the kids now gone I think it would be the time for anyone with any inside info on the incident (Jon I'm looking your way) to tell us what happened.

I have no problem with Rick not putting restrictions on where the kids can go to the school of their choice, even within the Pac-10. There have been transfers out fo the Pac-10 that I'm sure would have chosen UCLA but they could not because of the restrictions their coaches put on them. Hopefully Rick has set a new prescedent and from now on all coaches in the Pac-10 will give the players the freedom to go where the players choose.

CRN and UCLA didn't put restrictions on where they went because they couldn't. They're not setting any precedent...

It's not like these kids were transferring - they were RELEASED. UCLA gave up all claims to their commitments and they were therefore free to go wherever they wanted to.

The precedent was to release them outright...let's face it, at other places they would have been "suspended" at most for the year, burning the redshirt year they probably would have spent redshirting anyways. More than a few places would have just suspended them for the first half of the game against a directional U type opponent. I applaud the decision of UCLA.

To UCLArt. let's not go there.......just one of many, Tayna Harding, recruited by UCLA (Australian National Team pitcher) reported a couple of weeks late to school, did not take any finals, left weeks before, just so UCLA (later vacated and not accepted by Arizona) could win a Softball National Championship....I could go on......and on....but let's let sleeping dogs lie......

I guess they needed to sell exstacey or date rape to be considered by SUC.

Wow.... don't be so swift to judge when you don't know the boys. They are good kids that made a bad choice. You have no right to judge them and you don't know the situation! I seem to remember some recent UCLA football player that was stealing Handicap Plaquers and got a slap on the hand and got to play. Your not calling him a sleeze bag. Well.. the proof is in the pudding. UofA 4-0 BABY!! And HE'S PLAYING!!!
