Weekly Answers, Pt. 2
Check out the latest batch of weekly answers...
1) I think Dorrell's inability to land a high-caliber QB contributed most to his "downfall." Do you think Neuheisal faces a similar situation with the offensive line? - Hog
Dorrell landed the No. 1 quarterback in the country, who suffered numerous injuries and wasn't the savior ultimately. Neuheisel landed three top-10 OL in the last two years. Give it a little time.
2) With the injury to D. Jones, will that force the staff to use Ayers more at DE than planned? - JJA42
Most likely, yes. Even if it's not the exact reason, I think they'll see him as a pass rush threat and bounce him around more.
3) What is the status on the off-season basketball injuries: Malcom Lee and Brandon Lane? - JW
I've been told both are doing really well, and there aren't any issues. Both have worked very hard in rehab, and are going to be ready to go. Nothing holding them up.
4) I recall several of the incoming freshmen played both ways in HS. Can you give a rundown of which side of the ball they'll play on in college? - Anonymous
RB: Jones/James. TE: Young. OL: Ward, Innes, Yandall. F-back: Barr. DL: Marsh, Epenesa, Flowers, Odighizuwa. LB: Zumwalt, Olaniyan, Kendricks. S: Riley. CB: McDonald, Jefferson. K: Smith.
5) What does it say about the state of college football that the three UCLA purse snatchers, as well as Jeremiah Masoli, can be dismissed for criminal activity (or the suspicion thereof)yet so easily land at other universities? - Anonymous
It shows that A) Coaches are in it to win it, B) Their crimes were forgivable, C) The universities have deemed the risks acceptable. What it really shows, though, is that a lot of young men are very, very dumb and do idiotic acts with little understanding of the consequences. I don't think either Masoli or Shirley or the Richardsons are truly bad guys. I think they did something monumentally stupid, and I think their conduct after has been disappointing, but I don't think they're "bad" guys. I assume that all of their new coaches did the due diligence and found that they weren't all bad. That being said, Neuheisel absolutely should have released the players, and should be commended for it.

There's a their there dear friend.
Yes, but Ben Olson was very rusty from serving his Mormom mission. Also, he was a redshirt his first year at BYU. I'm not critizing his faith but it's tough to bounce back after two years of ministry like that.
But he landed the NUMBER ONE quarterback in the country so the answer would be NO. Neuheisel arrived at UCLA with the cupboard bare and he's had some bad luck with injuries. He'll get it going, and when he does, bad years will non-existent. We will consider a record of 8-3. I don't claim to be an expert, but I predict the season after this will be when it comes together.
Correction: We will consider a record of 7-4 a bad year at that point.
