Hundley announces UCLA

| | Comments (26) |

Surprise, surprise, Brett Hundley, the No. 6 quarterback in the country according to Scout.com, has chosen UCLA.

Hundley took an unofficial visit to UCLA for the team's Aug. 21 scrimmage, then cancelled an unofficial visit to Washington the following weekend. Shortly thereafter, Hundley wrote on Facebook that he made his decision, and that he would let it be known today.

Hundley announced his decision at Chandler High in Arizona in front of friends and family, giving UCLA it's top quarterback recruit since Ben Olson in 2004.
"It's a huge get; this is on par with Malcolm Jones last year, an impact player at an impact position," Scout.com's Brandon Huffman said. "The highest-rated from the high school ranks, and first time they've gotten a top quarterback prospect on the west coast in a long time."

UCLA has dealt with injuries and inconsistency at the position for almost every year in the last decade, but scouts believe Hundley could be a game-changer. Perhaps even play early.

"I think he could," Huffman said. "I don't think that Neuheisel has shown an aversion to playing young guys. He's the kind of guy who could come in, and if they get zero production from the position this year, they sure as heck open it up in the spring."

I've stated earlier that Hundley is the single-most important recruit for UCLA in the last 10 years...I refer strictly to forming the puzzle and making the pieces fit. Coupled with the recent recruiting successes by our coaches, Hundley will be the glue that ties it all together. Now sit back and watch CRN's staff assemble the rest of this year's class. And don't be surprised to see a few other big names follow his lead. Yes, once and for all our offense will become exactly what our coaches/fans have envisioned...

So I this the Terrell Pryor version for Ucla? Bout freakin' time we got a black quarterback! Not even Dorrell did that! Go Bruins!!

@ucla34, "Bout freakin' time we got a black quarterback! Not even Dorrell did that! Go Bruins!!"

Dorrell signed Osaar Rasshan and did not use him. Rasshan could run the option and was a hell of a dual threat QB in high school. He would have fit better with this "pistol" offense.

Now Rasshan was not as highly rated as Hundley, but he was a good black QB.

Welcome aboard Hundley.....GO BRUINS!!!!

I am very excited about Hundley and wish to welcome him to the Bruin family, but let's not get ahead of ourselves as he is just one high school senior (no more saviour hysteria).

If there are anything that recent history should have taught all of us, it is that skin color simply does not mean anything. It does not matter what the race or ethnicity of your Quarterback, Head Coach, or President are, only if they are competent or not. Overpromoting and rooting for underqualified minorities to compensate for liberal guilt in social justice hurts both the natural potential progression of the individual and the institution. So cut the nonsense already.

You know, I don't follow this stuff all that closely, but I always assumed this was Todd Hundley's kid. Guess not.

Anal, shut up and stop hating. Yes, Hundley is the missing piece to the puzzle - right now UCLA has the athletes at all the skilled positions except for QB and his announcement could not come at a better time, a time of uncertainty when our offense is supposed to be performing better than it should on the first game. I expect the best recruiting class UCLA has had in since RN arrived on the scene, and that's saying a lot because his classes have been awesome. Great Job Rick. Go Bruins!!!

I love Osaar and he was a great UCLA kid, but he could not throw a ball for the life of him. He could have been a good TE, but QB? Never. Still a great kid though

OK...the pieces are starting to fall into place for CRN's third class. From what I've read, this kid would be the perfect fit for this new pistol/revolver offense. We are starting to get the quality pieces (consistent top recruiting classes will yield a very competitive program) to the puzzle that will be a Van Gogh down the road...Let's sit back and enjoy this year's team. It is so essential to recruit kids with specific specs and abilities that fit your offensive and defensive schemes. Even though we've had issues such as academic ineligibilty, suspensions, and substantial injuries, WE ARE PROGRESSING. Our current batch of kids will blossoom. Just wait and see! REMEMBER: the PAC-10 is brutal...9 of the 10 teams can create havoc with each other...It should be interesting to see who ends up in the Rose Bowl come New Year's Day.

AWESOME! A commitment of epic proportions...simply put, the Pistol doesn't work without a QB like Hundley. I think Prince showed how limited his is athletically running it on saturday. Hundley runs a variation of the offense right now, and he should feel very comfortable with the transition next year. I read he's going to try to graduate early to be at UCLA for the Spring - don't doubt he'll have a chance to play as a freshman.

Now, if we can get a stud WR...Evans isn't on board yet IIRC, and it doesn't appear that Farmer is coming to Westwood (though I don't doubt Neu on anything recruiting).

We sure needed the good news. Prince & company - the clock is ticking...

Just hope Hundley not a over hyped Ben Olson clone & Bruins still need receivers with some hands

A guy named Pryor of Ohio State was booed unmercifully in the SC game last year, and was the subject of about 1000 hatred-type e-mails in Columbus, Ohio.

You see, the guy could run but he could not throw very well. Hard to find a guy that does both well, so we shall see about this Hundley kid

Yeah, jury still out on that Pryor kid. Wait...wan't he the MVP of the 2010 Rose Bowl? Wait...isn't he pretty much a lock to be in the top 3 vote-getters for the Heisman this year?

UCLA fans,

Have you forgotten about the 2010 season? C'mon fellas, we're only 1 game in!

Isn't this guy ranked just as high as 2 of the last three qb that ucla has gotten..
Nick crissman 4 star 81
Richard brehaut 4 star 81
Brett hundley. 4 star 81

I just hope its not one of those..

I watched the video of this guy on Scout.com. He is the real deal! Looks like a combination of Vince Young and John Elway. You can bet Neuheisel and Chow are dancing a jig right now. I can't wait. Let the recruits roll in. How great would it be to bring in George Farmer now? By the way, where was Randall Carroll vs. K. State? FIGHT ON!

So Ben Olson was supposed to be better than this guy? Pardon me for not getting too excited...

the only thing trogan possies need to fear is that crn is recruiting as well as pc did. cyz pc was no offensive geniys, he was only as good as his best oc, and who was that guy? it is not aboyt coaching, it is aboyt the jimmies and joes. btw, the kb i yse doesn't always easily type the letter u. trogan possies, ha ha. we r coming for u.

This is a big commitment for us; not only is Bret Hundley a talented prospect, but he is an excellent student. Although there is a lot of time until Signing Day, hopefully this will lead to other top prospects picking UCLA as well.
