Weekly Answers, Pt. 4

Check out the latest batch of weekly answers…

1) Do you think a reason for the conservative defensive playcalling was to not show too much and save it for tougher competition in the coming weeks? – Mike04
I think it had more to do with Akeem Ayers’ relative ineffectiveness and a lack of adjustment to how Washington State was handling the defensive line. I would have blitzed more.

2) From the production of Franklin/Coleman, I feel that we wasted a year for Malcolm Jones. Our lack of passing game makes me feel likewise for Anthony Barr. Your thoughts on these freshmen participation in offense? – Bruin ’05
I think it was absolutely crucial to get both involved in the offense immediately. For Jones, who knew Franklin/Coleman would be THIS good? No one, and that includes Rick Neuheisel and Norm Chow and Wayne Moses. You can’t just not use a guy because someone else *might* turn into the No. 10 running back in the country. And with Barr, he’s been an invaluable blocker, and he’s getting tougher by the day. Not sure how you would rather redshirt either at this point.

3) I was at the Wazzu game and noticed Prince not wearing the headset like Crissman does. Is there a reason why he doesnt wear one one he’s not playing? I take it Crissman calls in the plays?? Wouldnt you as a QB want to know whats being called??? – VBs Cat
You can know the play that’s being called without being the one who relays the information to the quarterback. Prince was right there the whole game. Don’t worry.

4) The passing game is struggling with timing, I get that, but from my perspective, I see a fundamental flaw in the routes our receivers are running. Do we run no crossing patterns over the middle of the field or quick slants that would allow our receivers to catch and run? It seems the simplicity of our routes are allowing opposing DB’s to way their way with our WR’s. Agree disagree? – Anonymous
Totally agree, and in fact, I couldn’t agree more. I understand that the coaches are tentative about the pass blocking holding up, but there should definitely be more downfield attempts, and that starts with the route.

5) Torian White still a Bruin? – Anonymous
Yes.
